I had forgotten how much I loved Richelle Mead's books.
It's been so long since I read Bloodlines. Even thought I remembered the basic story, the finer details were lost to me. But they started coming back as I read The Golden Lily.
I'll admit, I wasn't completely sold on Adrian in The Vampire Academy. He was ok but I was firmly a fan of Dimitri. With that said, I hated to see him hurt by Rose. He didn't deserve that. And while I was curious about Sydney, and was intrigued that this series was from her POV, Adrian wasn't a huge draw for me. I just couldn't see how he would play a part in this series. I was pleasantly surprised by that revelation in Bloodlines and became intrigued by his storyline.
So, when The Golden Lily rolled around, I was itching to get back to the series and find out what's going on with Sydney, Adrian and Jill.
I can say that I am now a huge fan of Adrian. Every scene he's in makes me smile. I'm really hoping that something happens between Sydney and Adrian. It would be another forbidden relationship, but they are so great together. Adrian is the perfect combination of snark, sincerity, and hotness.
As for the story...I saw the twist with Trey coming. As soon as Sydney mentioned that tattoo on his back, I knew. I was actually surprised that she didn't figure it out sooner.
It was nice to see Sydney having a "normal" life for a change, but like the other characters, I wasn't a fan of Brayden. I was glad to see things end between them at the end of the book. I think he was a jerk for what he said and it was a cop-out way to end things, but I was glad to see the last of him (I sincerely hope it was the last of him).
I was actually glad to see Sydney walk away at the end. Don't get me wrong...I want Sydney and Adrian together, but it would have been against Sydney's character to stay. went against everything she has been taught, everything she knows, everything she has believed it. For her to stay, she's essentially throwing away being an Alchemist. And her biggest fear, in all the books, is that she'll kicked out or locked up by the Alchemists. She even mentioned it multiple times in this book. I want Adrian and Sydney together, but I'm ok with the relationship building slowly.
I can't wait to jump into the third book...and since it's already on my kindle...it's going to be soon!

I love that he bought his car just because he knew Sydney would love it. And that he pretended that he didn't know how to drive a stick so that she would spend time with him and teach him! I was cheering at the end when Adrian kissed her! And my heart broke when she walked out on him. :(As for the story...I saw the twist with Trey coming. I forgot how much I can relate to Sydney. I think that's why I'm more hooked on this series than Vampire Academy. I don't particularly agree with all of Sydney's views, but she certainly sticks with them. I am completely the same. I just find it so nice to finally have a character who I can just... understand.
Plus, a little Adrian never really hurts.

It was amazing!!! The ending was so shocking, I was speechless!!
Ahh. This book was awesome. I really really enjoyed the first book, but I think this book was a lot better! I can't wait to get the next!!
If you're reading this on your phone, there are spoilers ahead, so beware!
After Trey started getting those bruises I wondered if there was something more... Then after Sydney's attacker reacted the way he did, I figured out it was him. I'm really nervous about how the hunters act towards the Moroi and what will happen in the future books. They better not hurt Adrian or anyone like that.
Naturally I've been waiting for Adrian to tell Sydney how he felt for some time now. Who else picked up on how Jill was acting to Sydney was actually coming through the bond? I thought it was pretty funny how she just kept talking about how beautiful she was all the time. I loved the night of the Halloween dance, her "teaching" him to drive (who else guessed he was just pretending? ), the self defense class, and of course the last chapter of the book. I think it's so adorable that Adrian paints. The lily part was so cute! Obviously I was thrilled when they finally kissed and he confessed his feelings. But I dont think any of us were that surprised with how Sydney reacted. She's been terrified of vampires her whole life. Just because she's friends with them now doesn't mean she's going to be okay with them making out with her.... I'm sure she'll get over it soon. ;) or at least I hope.
Who else was super bored with Braydon? I think he was an awesome FRIEND for Sydney, and they definitely have a lot they can talk about, but everyone could see there wasn't any passion. Not like the way it is with Adrian. I thought it was hilarious when he broke up with her for being "irresponsible" LOL
I feel about for Jill and her love life again. Once again the book is over and she's still not with the right guy. I guess it would have been just TOO easy if her and Eddie had gotten together right away. I'm kind of tired of Angeline though...
What does everyone think about Sydney's weird blood? Is it connected with her being able to do magic maybe? Guess we'll find out later.. I know she's terrified of anything magical but I think it's pretty awesome that she can make amulets and things.
I can't wait to get the third book! I'm away from home at the moment, and won't return until tomorrow. I had no idea I'd finish this book so quickly or I'd have brought the third as well...

So I kind of guessed that Trey was a vampire hunter. We kept hearing about these hunters over and over... HOW DO I PUT THIS ALL IN A SANE REVIEW WHEN I AM SO EMOTIONAL AND NOT OKAY AT ALL??? HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO FUNCTION RIGHT NOW?
This, at the moment, is my favourite book of the series and I have only read 2 of them so far. Everything about this book was amazing and beautiful and funny like damn funny. It just makes me laugh/smile a lot and that's amazing.
Sydney going on dates with Brayden and not knowing what to do, is so me. I believe I would be exactly like Sydney and that's why it's so easy to connect to her character. Even with her desire to be as skinny as Jill because she believes she should and had been drilled into believing that from early years. Adrian being the only one who notices things like that about Sydney though.
The whole last chapter ripped my ribcage open and I felt my heart being squeezed into oblivion. I still feel it aching because of those two idiots. Like why am I even shipping them so hard since the first book? Wasn't it enough already with other ships? And now even Eddie and Jill is killing me, not as much yet but damn those idiots, as well.
But did Adrian give her her cross back? Does he still have it? Does he go to sleep holding it close to his heart? Will he savor the taste of her lips against his? Think about the kiss every night making Jill think about it as well? Damn it!!!
I just can't with this!!!
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY MUST THIS BOOK HURT SO MUCH THOUGH???

As much as I liked the Vampire Academy series, I love Bloodlines. Even though it took them forever to create a locator spell in this universe (seriously, wasn't Willow using those spells in Series 1 of Buffy?), I don't have any reason to complain. Also, I know this is weird, but it's totally OK if I have a slight crush on Adrian right? Even though he's quite younger than me and well a character in a young adult vampire novel? Wait. Don't answer that. Just let me keep deluding myself into believing it's OK.
no thoughts just pretending you don't know how to drive stick so you can have some extra alone time with the girl u like
(these books are still absolute vibes and nostalgia and basically impossible to rate)
