This dragged for me a little in spots, but there were a lot of great parts. I love Sydney, she is so awkward & relatable. It is fun to see her completely miss things that seem so obvious. I am still not a huge fan of Adrian's but he is starting to grow on me. Eddie is awesome though, love him! Can't wait to see what is going to happen in the next book as there are all kinds of personal problems, lol!
Oh also can't wait to find out more about Marcus Finch.

I love reading from Sydney's perspective and in this book, Adrian is really funny!
Reading this series reminds me of being a young teenager and devouring books like they were the only thing on the planet.
Definitely my favorite book in the Bloodlines series so far! Sydney is changing so much and it makes me extremely happy! I would have been even more happy with her, had I not read the last chapter. The ending just made me want to yell at her for the way she treated Adrian. I really, really hope she'll just give in and stop following what the Alchemists have told her all of her life. I really want her and Adrian to be together. They both deserve it.
Ahhh love these books :) So simple and easy to read :P lalala
[4.5]

Whole series review:
2.5-3 ⭐️ I recently discovered there was a sequel to the Vampire Academy series, and I had to check it out for the sake of my teenage self.
It was different enough that not having read Vampire Academy in a decade didn’t impact my understanding of the plot and characters.
Exactly what I expected from a YA fantasy novel, and a low effort holiday read. I did get bored by the last book, as it was a lot to binge.

Actual rating is more of a 3.75.
I throughly enjoyed this book more than the first one, however, like the first book in this series, the beginning was slow and it took me awhile to become reinvested in the book and what was going on. The book does do a really good job of recapping what happened in book 1 so if it has been awhile since you read Bloodlines, I still think you can jump right in and enjoy the book.
The Golden Lily takes place right after the events of Bloodlines and continues the story of Sydney Sage. I really enjoyed reading about Sydney and really enjoy her as a character. I do want to note that she is extremely insecure about her weight and size and constantly thinks about the foods that she eats and whether it has too much sugar or not which can be triggering to some people.
The ending of the book also made me want to read the sequel soon so hopefully I will get to it within the next few months. I can no longer binge read series anymore which is really sad since I get burnt out staying in one world for so long and reading one genre too long will also result in be becoming burnt out with that genre.
Overall I highly recommend this series if you are looking for a fun paranormal urban fantasy. This book has a boarding school trope which I know is a lot of people's favorites and of course has vampires in it. Do read Vampire Academy first though because this book does spoil the ending for that book and the Vampire Academy series is quite good as well.

So this is one of my book box books and I completely forgot to review it. That's a lie, I just couldn't be bothered (Sorry mum, I'm awful, I know.) But anyway I'm gonna review it now (Also I'm listening to Taylor Swift on shuffle and Champagne Problems just came on and it is so Adrian and Roses's song and Sydney is
"But you'll find the real thing instead
She'll patch up your tapestry that I shred
And hold your hand while dancing
Never leave you standing
Crestfallen on the landing
With champagne problems")
Ok, I'm waffling on now so I'm gonna start actually reviewing although it would be much easier if your blooming dog would sit still, she keeps walking all over my lap.
I love the beginning of this book because it gives us a first glimpse of the re-education centers and what actually goes on within them. We get to see Keith Darnell again (which to be honest wasn't that great like he can rot for all I care) but this time he's no longer evil, cunning, and conniving. This really sets us up for "Silver Shadows" which I think is really clever because, at this moment in time, we are relishing in whatever torture Keith has been put through because to put it simply he's an awful person, and moreover he is arrogant which makes us begin to question, how has this evil, spiteful, confident and arrogant person been reduced to such a shell of a man and this query is only solidified further in "The Fiery Heart" when we see how his own thoughts and emotions have been entirely replaced by the mindless mantras that the Alchemists drilled into him. However just before Sydney leaves she is show a man who is convinced that he wants to become Strigoi and this is to remind us why the Alchemists exist in the first place and that they are serving "a higher purpose to defend humans from the evil creatures of the night that threaten humanity." Personally, I hate most of the Alchemists and yeah, yeah I get that their roles are really important and all that lot but it winds me right up that even though they work so closely with the Moroi they aren't allowed to form friendships or for that matter, be friendly at all. But it's not just that it's frowned upon, like they fully mind control other Alchemists if they get to friendly. That's like being a teacher and not being allowed to be nice to children, it's ridiculous.
On the note of getting friendly with Moroi, let's talk about how cute Sydrian was in this book!!!!! Like I know they weren't even a couple in this book but they were so cute!! I loved all of the Adrian/ Brayden interactions cause he was so jealous of Brayden and Sydney being together. Ooooo and the Halloween chapter where he was angry because he called Sydney's absolutely gorgeous outfit "Historically inaccurate". And the heart to hearts that they had over spirit where Adrian admitted to being afraid that Spirit would take over his mind completely one day. That scene was so hard to read because it was so heartbreakingly emotional, and Adrians one of my favourite characters ever so it was also really interesting to watch up to Sydney.
And oh my god, when they went to meet Adrian's dad!!! Oh my god, I can't even describe how much I HATE Adrian's dad! But I also kinda loved that scene because of Sydney defending Adrian and chewing his dad out when he tried to offer her money for what he thought was the chore of putting up with Adrian Ivashkov! Awwwwww and then afterwards when Sydney bought them each a slushie because she knew it would cheer him up butu he wouldn't accept it if she didn't also have one, and she drank it all even though it had a shit ton of sugar in it and she avoids sugar like the plague.
Awwwwww and then just before she faces the Warriors, and Adrian has complete faith in her to get herself and Sonya out of that situation and even though there is a backup plan that she isn't supposed to know about, the others have to remind him of his promise not to tell her for her own safety, because he can't stand lying to her but he makes sure that she that he had no doubt in her abilities!!!!!!!! OMFG I love Sydrian so much!!!!
And then right at the very very end where they kiss and Sydney loves him, omfg I was proper fangirl squealing at that but then Sydney decides that it can't happen again because otherwise she would end up in re-education!!!
AHHHHH!!! Honestly thank you so much for this one Mum it was amazingggggg!!
Also thank you to Opal (my mum's dog) for being my laptop rest lol.
And happy birthday to Cas (my dog)!!!!!!!!

Wow, I'm turning really preachy with my reviews nowadays, aren't I?
Anyway, I /PERSONALLY/ love the story arc that Sydney is being given whereupon she is forced to confront and examine the beliefs she's being raised with but not because someone is actively trying to change her mind nor is she trying to change her own position but rather her world and her beliefs are being shaken up. That is my JAM. Some of you seem to have some trouble comprehending why this is so difficult for her, to which I really have nothing I can say.
Sydney is not Rose. Look at that sentence and read it again. Okay, got it? I love Rose but I love how different Sydney is from Rose. I can understand why some of you are having trouble adjusting to a new narrator but I'm quite glad we aren't getting just a watered down version of Rose. (Also I don't know what y'all were expecting since we met Sydney already in Blood Promise and Last Sacrifice.)
Look, I think Mead's writing has improved since Vampire Academy and Frostbite. However, let's be honest - this is a YA novel about vampires with magical powers and thus, expectations should be appropriate for what it is. No one should be expecting Jane Austen's writing. That being said I think that the VA books have done a really good job tackling genuine issues.
[I'm amused that the writing tropes readers love in fanfiction are apparently not cool in published fiction. Y'all love the shit out of slow burn romances, what exactly do you think is going to happen in Bloodlines?]
A weak point I'll agree upon is Jill. Her characterisation isn't so much inconsistent as I have trouble understanding anything other than her character's motivations. She wants to model for Lia, just like many normal teenage girls would, she feels like she's a burden to Lissa but what are her interests? What are her feelings towards Rose? Sydney? Christian? Does she like babies? What does she want to do with her life? What's her religious affiliation? I have no clue, really. I wish Jill had a friend the way Sydney has Trey or Kristin and Julia (and no, I don't mean Micah). I think that would open her up as more complex in a way the reader can actually see. (Also I like both Eddie and Jill and I feel for Eddie's painful I-don't-deserve-her unrequited feelings but them as a couple feels so bland and unnecessarily heterosexual, I really would prefer not to see the pair pushed together. I would have loved to see lesbian/bi/pan/queer Jill who is unapologetically into girls. Eddie and Angeline to me have a much more interesting dynamic. ('course I'm not naive, it's clear how that situation's gonna go)
