Great book. I had to stop reading it the first time, because I knew I was going to be frustrated with it and too eager for the next book. So I waited until the third book was out and I read them both back to back. If you get caught up in the drama and angst in books, then I suggest this approach. It was a great book, but I was so frustrated and heart broken at the end. Great series!
The Golden Lily is the second book in the Bloodlines series. In this installment, Sydney is faced with protecting the Moroi from not only the Strigoi and those who are after the Queen's lone relative, but also a rogue group with ancient ties to the Alchemists. She discovers the Alchemists have not been telling her the whole truth and she begins questioning everything she believes in. She sees the evil humans are committing who were once part of the Alchemists, but the supposedly "evil" vampires are quickly becoming the true friends she never had.

I kind of miss the action Rose always had, in Vampire Academy. Not that there's no action at all in these books, it's just that Sydney is a whole other person (duhh) and well she's almost something like against fighting so the fighting happens because she's watching it happen, just like a moroi would.
However, I love Adrian. He's such a good guy despite of all the alcohol and drugs he consumes. In Vampire Academy I didn't like him as much as I do now, partly because I always thought Rose was way better of with someone as Dimitri, who could handle her personality and partly because the books didn't have that much of Adrian's good parts in it, just a few. This book however is full of the good things Adrian does and therefore I see a character-development I like, very much. So for that, job well done!
Oh, last note: I think these books are a bit predictable.. I knew something was up with Trey from the beginning, when he missed classes and in Bloodlines I knew Keith had something to do with it, too, but I was way wrong in what precisely. I didn't expect Lee though..

I find it somehow hard to write a review for this book. Though generally it is a lot easier to write for books that I either loved a lot, or hated. This edition of the series goes along the lines it has been for a while, since if we look at the whole universe, this is the 8th book. By now, the writing has become an old friend, though quite predictable. I've noticed the formula a few books back. Still, I find myself reading on, wanting to know what else is in this universe. The good thing about this book is that while we do have some things we know about the surroundings, we discover new things as well, new groups, new ways of magic, and new things about old groups.
Like I have previously mentioned, Sydney is a lot like me. It was funny to see her dating, because it reminded me of some of my troubles with dating. The guy was even like some of the people I've dated, though none so smart. How Sydney is not like me is that she has some serious hang-ups about certain things, all understandable. It's interesting to see how she slowly gets over them. Also, how her world slowly crumbles and falls.
Overall, a good edition. Towards the end there was the usual excitement, which always spices things up a bit. Onto the next book!
