So…. 4 stars for me. This book just didn’t quite hit the spot and I hate to say it.
I’m a diehard VA fan, so I’m naturally obsessed with Adrian. I’ll admit, Sydney has started growing on me.
What I like about the character development is that we are continuing to dive into Sydney’s true beliefs. How she's torn between the beliefs she held her entire life and this newfound “family” in which she has found herself intertwined.
But the issue with this book, similar to my review on Bloodlines, is that's it's a bit... slow? Again, I appreciate delving into Sydney’s core, but I'm ready for more.
Unfortunately, it seems a bit anticlimactic. The last hundred pages of the book were a bit of a letdown. I'm grateful for the action, but it was realllllllly lacking.
Aside from that, I enjoyed the storyline. This book did a great job setting us up for the next, and I'm intrigued to figure out this “mystery”.
I am loving the “forbidden love” tangle. An interesting twist is seeing Adrian in this completely new light. His cocky banter is still present, but his confidence has taken a dive. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
I'm not sure how I feel about the direct relation to Adrian attempting to quit his addictions for Sydney as he did for Rose. There are references to Rose and the way he changed for her, it is a nice sprinkle for VA fans.
Overall, I guess I could say I'm just excited to have gotten this book done and out of the way so I can jump into the next!

3.5 stars. This one was better than the first, but still not up to VA standards. The beginning was slow. By the time it started to pick up I couldn't believe that I was almost done with the book. It was predictable, not as much as the first book though. I don't feel that this is the same Adrian that was in VA. I hope the series continues to improve.
