For some reason I didn’t have very fond memories of The Golden Lily. I always thought it was the odd one out of the series (well, besides The Ruby Circle). But now I feel a little dumbfounded because… I loved it?

Ok, not exactly loveeed the story but let’s be real, the only reason any of us are here is for Sydney and Adrian. My god I love them. I cried several times for those two. And I would do it a hundred times again. I love them. So much.

The plot was fine, I guess. Though it’s still very predictable. Anyway, it doesn’t matter. I’m actual trash for Bloodlines.

Well well I finally finish this book and I'm really happy

Since I ended the first book I wanted to read this one but it wasnt exactly what I expected. I wonder that Sydney finally grow up but no, she is still the same, I hope she finally change in the next books and be better

Adrian ivashkov is -like always- the best part, he is the most adorable person and character, he is one of my crushes and I will always love him. HE IS A PUPPY FACE I LOVE Him

Okay, i want to read the next one

so 4/5 stars and 8/10

Finally a book that managed to break me out of my "let's read shitty books unintentionally back to back" trend! By no means is this an amazing book series but I still thoroughly find myself enjoying each installment. For me Richelle Mead's books aren't so much about the plot, but about the characters and relationships within her books. This book was just as good as the first and I always know that I can go to this world for a bit of mindless entertainment.

So the plot isn't very fast moving but I've come to expect that with Mead's books. Majority of the novel was focused on character dynamics and relationships and a sense of finding yourself and beliefs. The mystery element about the Vampire Hunters added a subtle amount of tension but the main tension was between Sydney and Adrian. Obviously.

Oh. My. Giddy. Aunt. Sydney and Adrian are actually killing me! My sweet babies! So yes, I can understand Sydney's reaction to the kiss between them and I'm actually glad she reacted the way she did. It puts another barrier between their friendship and as much as I want them to be together I LOVE their slow burn. I felt myself yearning for Sydney and Adrian moments all the time because they're just so PERFECT for one another. Adrian is such a god damn sweet heart. He's so kind and understanding of Sydney and never pushes past her boundaries. He was trying so hard to make her happy and by doing so he let himself suffer. THAT'S LOVE. :') It was also just so adorable how oblivious Sydney was to Adrian's feelings. As soon as Jill starting acting all mushy I was like, "it's Adrian! It's the bond!" I also have no idea how she didn't pick up on Adrian not wanting to touch her in self defense classes. Every time Adrian got awkward I was just all uwu inside. And I love how Adrian pretended he didn't know how to drive a manual just so Sydney could teach him. All of these things I picked up on but Sydney just looked past. How?!

Another thing I picked up on was Trey being a Vampire Hunter. It was always hinted that he was covered in bruises and never turned up to classes. After a while I kinda just put it together. But I hope Sydney and Trey can still be friends because I really like their friendship.

ALSO. Brayden is such an asshole. I couldn't believe some of the things he said to Sydney?! Like he didn't even compliment her when she turned up in that stunning red dress. He was just like "hm, its historically incorrect." I'm sorry but your girl looks bomb asf, at least compliment her on it? And when he said she was irresponsible? Okay bro, okay.

Over all I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the third one. :) Mainly I just love the characters and wanna see where their story goes *coughs* Adrian and Sydney.

BRILLIANT!!! I loved the book in every possible aspect, though ,to tell the truth, the ending killed me, and the sequel isn't even named, so doubtless it's a long wait :-(((
PLOT - exciting, eventful, full of episodes, that have potential to develop into great plot lines in the next installments. There weren't any unnecessary scene, detail, word - everything was justified in the process of the storyline.
CHARACTERS - There is one character, who was PERFECT in every situation in this installment and who managed to win me into his team from TEAM DMITRI - sure, that's Adrian. He was caring, loyal, charming, protective, brave, emotional, kind........ well, just fantastic!!! As for Sydney - I liked her in this book even more, but in the last chapter she went and made me exceedingly mad at her - I thought she was becoming open-minded and independent at last, but I was wrong, unfortunately. The same with Eddie - I admired him until he decided on the wrong date, and Jill was too clueless. As for Dmitri - he was awesome as usual. I loved many secondary characters - they truly were just amazing!
STYLE OF WRITING - fluent, addictive, flawless, pleasant.
So, don't hesitate - read the series! It's an invaluable reading experience!HIGHLY-RECOMMENDED!!!

This was definitely an improvement from the first book already!

I am liking Sydney more and more; I really admired her genius brain and compassionate heart in book one, but I also appreciated her willingness to keep growing. I just feel like she has such a quiet strength and selfless attitude. She takes care of everyone and everything without a single complaint and does it without expecting anything in return. She doesn’t need attention or recognition, and simply does things because it’s the right thing to do. She’s just such a good and capable person, and I truly respect her.
Also, her continuous development is still looking mighty good and I’m definitely invested in it! I can’t wait for the moment she will finally start fighting back against the Alchemists and break free from that toxic group.

When it comes to her relationship with Adrian I must say I was not a fan of it in the first book at all, but it’s turning into something quite cute. Whereas I couldn’t feel any romantic connection between them at first, and could honestly not even see any particular interest on either side, I could definitely detect it now. These two were so supportive and comforting towards each other, and it was really nice to see. I especially enjoyed seeing Adrian fall in love with her; Sydney is such an amazing person, and I’m glad Adrian has finally noticed it too. I hope Sydney will make him work for it though, because I can’t imagine her diving head first into something like this!

Nonetheless, aside from Sydney and Adrian, I still don’t feel any connection to all the other characters. They were all pretty superficial and we don’t really get to know much about them. Everyone seemed to be in love with someone, but I don’t care about any of it, since it all felt very shallow and silly. It had little to no depth… I hope that might improve later on in the series though.

WHAT AN ENDING!

It took me long enough but I'm finally finished reading this book. For some reason, this book felt like Book 1 of any of the fantasy series I've read and loved in the past. It wasn't necessarily world building since we're already quite familiar with their world but it did feel like it was laying the groundwork for the rest of the series. Even though I didn't gobble down the book in days, I still really enjoyed it. I'm also using the fact that I moved back to school and worked full time whilst reading the book as excuses for why I took so long.

This series has fantastic side characters and it was lovely to see how important each of them were to the plot. The Eddie-Jill-Micah situation was fun and at times sad to read about. Throw in Angeline and it's like...wow, okay. Interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how all of that plays out. I've always really liked Sydney and Trey's dynamic and it was lovely to get more backstory on him in this book. Ms T is still Ms T. Forever trying to get Sydney to join her coven. I'm also really glad that Sydney dated Brayden. Did I believe in their love story? No. They're better off as friends and he's slightly condescending but I did like the fact that she got some dating experience from being with him. I'm also glad their relationship wasn't long and drawn out because we all know it wasn't going anywhere.

Now for the main show... ADRIAN IVASHKOV AND SYDNEY SAGE. I love them both as individual characters. And even though, they're not together (yet, it's only a matter of time), I love them together. They defend one another, they believe in one another, they're both able to see parts of each other people seem to miss. The call each other out on their BS. Thank you Adrian for calling Sydney out on her food BS and thank you Sydney for calling Adrian out on his commitment issues. They have such a great dynamic, they banter well, they're cute and funny together. I also really liked how strict Adrian was in terms of boundaries and consent. Sydney, as a people pleaser, can sometimes forget her own boundaries and I like that Adrian is always there to remind her of them and protect her from people taking advantage of her and convincing her to do things she doesn't want to. He's stepped up for her in that regard more than once. Even with regards to himself. I love that Sydney didn't just run into his arms after he admitted his true feelings towards her. I like that even though she knows the values she was raised with are at times flawed, you can see her grapple and struggle with merging two parts of herself and not forgetting all that because a boy (who she clearly has feelings towards) says he likes her and kisses her. I love that Sydney also gives Adrian a chance to discover his true self and encourages him to be on the straight and narrow. She sees all the great things people often dismiss. She reminds him to be serious every now and then and he reminds her to let go every now and again. They have such a great dynamic and I've enjoyed their progression to where they are now.

I'm really excited to see how Marcus and the pseudo-Alchemists play into the rest of the series. I'm really excited to see more Adrian and Sydney moments and I'm really excited to see where the series is going with regards to their adventures.

Bloodlines is definitely different from Vampire Academy but still just as good. Adrian keeps things interesting as ever. - March 31 2015
