It took me awhile to get into this book, it's definitely a slow burn but I did end up enjoying it especially towards the end! The romance is non existent in this book, so if you're down with being patient, I know it happens in later books. There should be a trigger warning of sexual assault, but this was written before we really had those I think. I would recommend for anyone that likes fantasy with dark fae.

I read this one for a laugh, and it was horrible. Bad plot, bad writing, laughable characters and cringe-worthy dialogue. Can be used as a perfect example for why I loathe this whole genre. The only good thing about this kind of book that usually it doesn't take that long to read them, so you don't feel like you lost part of your life for something this bad.
I liked Mac. She was a material girl without being disgustingly shallow or selfish. She was stubborn, determined, and prideful, all flaws that endeared me to her. However, I didn't like Jericho and his harshness or how willing Mac was to go along with his plans after everything he did, her stubbornness seeming to fade and get beaten down by his words. I was delighted when she didn't like him in the slightest despite his attractive features, but over time she began to form a one-sided bond with him. Mac changes for her survival and because of Barrons' influences, but *he* never budges. He continues to threaten her and be an overall ass, making me wonder if I am supposed to hate him. From what I can tell, he is the love interest. A crappy one at that. Am I meant to swoon when he shows her basic decency? (like when he paints her nails because her arm is broken) The world-building was intriguing and unique, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Jericho just ruined the whole experience. TikTok has fooled me once again...
i think i might become a fan of paranormal urban fantasy novels. this book was good. after the first 50 pages or so i was hooked and couldn't put it down. i really enjoyed the writing style and it was a quick read. but that's also why i couldn't give it 5 starts. honestly not much happened!!! the first installment of the fever series was really about introducing us to the characters and the whole idea of the Seelies and the Unseelies. there wasn't as much suspense as I would have liked and I knew by a certain page that not much excitement was going to happen. but I am definitely going to read the next book because the author did a good job of keeping me interested. the villans were great, the idea of the Fae was great etc. and i just have to find out what else is next for Jericho and Mac.
i read a lot of reviews of readers who hated Jericho's character and i don't understand why. he's obviously secretive, he obviously has flaws but i think that's what i appreciate. he's not trying to be something he's not. he's mysterious and i can't wait to find out more about him.
mac on the other hand will take some getting used to. she does complain and whine a lot but it isn't unbearable. i did get tired of her repeating the fact that she was miserable on account of her sister's death, i think we knew that by the 100th time she mentioned it. i did love the exchange between her and Jericho. i thought their budding relationship was cute.
can't wait to read bloodfever and see what happens next.

I found the book interesting. I liked the idea and the world building and the portrait of the Fae.
And I also liked the approach of the main character, oscillating between helpless and defiant.
I think I'll give a try to the follow up

I'm not sure why I liked this book so much. I could not put it down. The writing is not great but it is one of those easy books you read for fun. You know the ones, they are what I like to call the candy of the book world, no substance just entertainment.
I liked it but not quite enough to read the next one. I had really hoped to wrap this up in a nice bow with a single book. It wasn't meant to be. I don't know if I'm connected with the characters enough to find out what happens to them. With the foreshadowing alone, I know she makes it through.

50% and DNF'd. Cringeworthy and thought I could just hate-read my way through it but there are too many good books to read. I just can't. 🤦🏻♀️
