The world building in this book is so good! And the pacing of the plot makes it hard to put down. I can’t wait to read the next one.
DNF'd 2% in at "I love to eat. Fortunately, it doesn't show. I'm healthy through the bust and bottom, but slim through the waist and thighs. I have good metabolism" EYE ROLLLLLL
Was this unbearably difficult to get through? Yes
Did I cringe every time the MC had an
inner-monologue? Yup!
Did I suffer through and finish just to get to
book 2? Totally
The only way I was able to finish was by reading it along with the audiobook. The MC is painfully narcissistic, the story is very plot driven, and there was literally zero romance despite this being labeled an adult paranormal romance…
But I hear the series gets better as it progresses so I’ll keep going!

This book is agonizingly slow, It took forever for the plot to picked up which is kind of frustrating. I wasn't amaze by the whole characterization and the story though I would give Moning the kudos, the world building is quite fantastic just not my thing.
This book was amazing! I am an avid Moning fan. I started with her highland series and really enjoyed them. When I learned she was expanding her story in the Highland series to her Fever series, I was impatient to read them all. However, I read countless reviews stating she wasn't a romance writer anymore and that the new series is nothing like her previous work. I was severely disappointed since some of my favorite writers have switched genres right when they seem to be at the top of their game. I decided I'd read the series eventually and assumed it would probably take me weeks to read since it lacked romance.
I assumed wrong. It took me a day in a half to finish the book. This is the best piece of literature Moning has produced. I really enjoyed her Highland series but her subplot on the Tuatha De Danna was always muddled and not quite clear. It seems Moning has honed in on her skills as a writer and has given her creative idea of the Fae justice.
It does not lack romance either. I think her fans that were disappointed in her Fever series were expecting something similar to her Highland series. The two series are very different. "Darkfever" is much more serious. But if your expecting to find a few sex scenes in this book you will be disappointed to learn there aren't any. Don't let that discourage you, there is still a lot of sexual tension among the characters.
I am so glad I finally read this book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Mmmm this is odd. I joined a buddy read to attack this series and I got to a point where I just was less and less interested. There’s some nostalgic moments because she has an iPod lol and where’s her lacy cami with the low riding capris lol
The magic system and what powers she possesses wasn’t exactly clear and there was this one being that like took over her sexually is so odd and unclear, it grossed me out and I just couldn’t wrap my mind around it. So yea no not for me.

This book. So many questions left unanswered. Why do you torture me so?! Now I must go and get the second book.
*Original post*Still trying to process my feelings on this.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a really enjoyable read, with a complex world that has been built, and though it was confusing at times, it fit very well with the confusion that the protagonist felt. I didn't have strong feelings about her one way or another, but I did appreciate that she didn't really seem to lose herself, and her identity, with all the crazy stuff that was happening around her. She's not so much a sympathetic character, except for the fact that she was thrust into an unfamiliar situation with the recklessness that is the trademark of a 22 year old "adult". It felt very true and real the way she handled her situation, she is by no means perfect, and she's still figuring all her shit out while she has the pressure of, essentially, saving the world. I don't want to dwell too much on this review because the next book is already downloaded on my kindle and I'm ready to start it, which I guess is the best recommendation I can give.
