Love how the fae are created based on actual myths. Mac may seem like she’s one of the “I’m not like other girls” types at first, but she doesn’t think that. She is young and naive until we watch her grow and evolve as she deals with everything thrown her way.
This took me a minute to get into, but once I did, I was hooked!
I can’t wait to see where this story goes and hunt down some fae. I love Barrons 🖤 and though Mac is not the type of FMC I usually enjoy, I can already see some growth in her and can’t wait for her to develop more!

I think maybe had I read this the year it was published (2006), back when dumb blondes, French tip manicures, and having zero ambition was “cool,” I might have found the main character slightly less irritating. HOWEVER, that’s only because she was the epitome of every other female character on tv/in books during the Paris Hilton era.
But, that mind-numbingly idiotic phase known as the early 2000s is over; therefore, a narrator (Mac) who tells me every other page about how gorgeous she is and how she never had any motivation to move out of her parents’ house because, like, her mom’s cooking was so super good and her sister is her only friend and totally the smart one!!!! got old really quick.
I got it, Mac. You think you’re great. Please learn the difference between confidence and vanity.
The plot actually wasn’t half bad. I’m showed up for the sex addicted Fae promised in the synopsis and stayed for the mysterious (but not Fae) Jericho Barrons.

It was alright. I felt the main character kind of annoying and a bit too flippant, in my opinion. I found myself skimming paragraphs a lot wading through the mess to get to the good stuff. But I try not to judge a first book in a series too
much. I’ll likely read the next one.

Where to begin?
The world building was super cool. I've never read about Fae like these and I immediately wanted to know more.
I know some people really did not like Mac but honestly I didn't have a problem with her. She's nothing like me and probably not someone I would meet in my friends circle but we are all different. (Plus, this book was published in, what? 2006? A lot of the things that were cool back then aren't anymore. Looking at you capri pants.)
I don't understand how I'm supposed to be head over heels for Jericho right now? We barely got to know him. We learned more about him (and that was barely anything) in the last chapters than the whole book. He didn't feel like a main character or even a romantic interest. And it's not because we didn't know about his past or what he truly is. You can get to know and like a character without that information (just look at Hawke from [b:From Blood and Ash|52831200|From Blood and Ash (Blood and Ash, #1)|Jennifer L. Armentrout|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1585598504l/52831200._SX50_.jpg|78982151]). What we saw of him was so vague and superficial that I simply did not get attached.
Which leads me to... what the heck??? How was this labeled a romance?? There was no romance whatsoever! Zero, zilch, nothing, nada. I get that this is a series, and we will probably see more in the next books, but y'all know how much I need romance in a book. I was really disappointed that all I got a tiny hint at it.
Will I keep reading this series? I honestly don't know. I'll do some research to see if the romance picks up enough in the next book, otherwise I won't read it.
If you don't mind a lack of romance and are looking for some urban fantasy/paranormal story, I recommend this book.

Pretty silly book that definitely brought me back to what would have been right up my alley as a YA reader - paranormal creatures + female lead with spunkTM. I enjoyed the paranormal aspect, the world building, and the ridiculous descriptions of the lead characters “hot” outfits of the early aughts. The metallic juicy purse, I cannot. But aside from pushing through some cringe where the lead character was concerned and a few awkwardly written passages, I’ll definitely check out the next book for a light, quick read.

I wanted to like this because it had some serious Buffy/Charmed vibes to it. However, it came off sloppy and rushed. Certain characteristics of the protagonist seemed like they were introduced as an afterthought. She also had a Mary Sue vibe, because in her first major fight she was able to do everything perfectly without any training, up until she was overpowered by another supernaturally strong character. Not sure if I'll keep reading this series.
