Such an odd book. 400+ pages of nothing really happening

The most frustrating book I have ever read in my entire life. Both loved and hated it, it's an interesting read if you like Kazuo Ishiguro, but don't start with this one.

I almost hate this book, but I also loved it. It's the best rendering of the worst fever nightmare you ever had. I found it hard to read and impossible to put down. Someone would have to pay me to read it again, but I am really glad I read it once. I haven't recommended it to anyone, nor would I, because it is so hard to like, but it has really stuck with me, and years and years later, I still have indelible mental images from some of the passages.

Waiting for Godot meets Kafka meets Being John Malkovich meets that r-e-a-l-l-y strange dream you had the time you wolfed down that mondo burrito. This inexcusably long and overblown book is either sublime or ridiculous; I couldn't tell which upon first reading. And having just finished it, I can't bear right now the thought of reading it again.
