This book was just...too long. Personally, I think there was a lot of drama included at the beginning that probably could have been cut out. Let's do some editing, people. Get rid of unnecessary plot points! I would also say that this isn't Clare's best finale. But I finished it! We'll see if she does another Shadowhunter series after this.

Also, there's a lot of hiding things and miscommunication in this book, adding to a love triangle and in my opinion, creating unnecssary drama. Some of the characters also made some strange decisions in this, not really matching with the first two books in the series. For me, James was the most frustrating, since he didn't want to be straight forward with Cordelia. You're married! You both love each other! Just tell her what had been going on!

Anyway, if you're a fan of the Shadowhunter books, you'll probably enjoy this one. It just wasn't my favorite of the Shadowhunter books.

This was a great finale! I laughed, cried, was stressed. The poor Merry Thieves were put through so much in this series! I do think that parts near the beginning could have been trimmed or cut out - this book dragged through the beginning and was longer than it needed to be. But I did enjoy as we got farther into the book and the ending was brilliant.

I overall really enjoyed this book! Definitely has the typical Cassie style, though I will say this book was particularly romance-focused (which isn’t a bad thing for me!). I love the romance—particularly all the pairings in this story—but I would have liked to see more demon battles.
I also found the end a little predictable, with James stabbing himself with Cortana and Cordelia healing him immediately after. Because of that, I didn’t really feel the magnitude of tension that I would have expected to feel for a final battle.
Overall though, I think Cassie did a great job developing some of the couples that I was DYING to get more content of (Thomas and Alastair my beloveds, plus Anna and Ari). I also think Grace’s story was handled well—I think the reactions to the truth of her and James’ “relationship” were realistic for each character. God I just love these characters so much, Cassie has such a way of making us fall in love with her characters.

"I rather think love is something like a book written just for us, a sort of holy text it is given to us to interpret."

3 ⭐️

I’m sad. I feel underwhelmed and the second half of the book felt like a slog to get through. Was it a joy to be reunited with the characters? Yes. But it all felt a little repetitive and like reworked from her other books with maybe an added little bit. I felt no emotion to the event that I was expecting to lose my shit over. I also don’t think that particularly part was written well, it could’ve been so hard hitting but fell behind in everything else going on. Like the characters acted out of character by the event.

I will say that I was glad that the characters got closure at the end of the series, I just wish we had a better finale to the series. If the rest of the book was as fast paced as the first third with more layers to it, I think I would’ve loved it more.

Matthew Fairchild is King though, the babe deserves the world.

I’m conflicted. I don’t know if this is a 4.5 or a 5⭐️ but I do know that I am mentally drained and immensely upset that this is the last book we get to see the last hours crew.
