This book will probably be added to my favourite list. After watching the movie, the book answered a lot of questions that I had, and it also added a lot more "visual"'as well. It was well written & I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!

something special about this book. mostly in the portrayal of how brothers love and fear for each other in tiny moments where they observe each other. I wish they’d kept the plot with Howard and his wife in the movie to give women a little more room to breathe here (esp considering that it’s a true story) not anything groundbreaking but very satisfying for people who like reading about the consequences of living in a family legend and trying to survive it

For me I found this book hard to read, I just couldn't really get into it, its not normally the type of book I read either. In this case I felt the film was better, but its worth a read if you are interested in this type of history.

Moonshine, tobacco and crime... I expected to like this more than I did...

I loved the Bondurant Boys and most of the supporting characters, especially Maggie. Not a huge fan of the chapters from Sherwood Anderson's point of view though, but all in all a good read.

An interesting historical read but the end is a little sloppy.

I saw the movie first, I must admit. And I LOVED the movie, so I thought I have to read this book and see how accurate they got things. I will say this, the movie is much more entertaining, but mostly because you get to see all of the action, plus I think they added in a bit to create extra crazy. I did like the book however, because it explored each family member, whereas the move kind of focused on Jack more than the other 2 brothers. I do think they did a great job with casting for the movie. For a historical book though I will say it was good, I wasn't bored, except when I was reading the Anderson chapters. I didn't think those were necessary, I see why they are necessary for the research part of it, but as part of the book I could have done without. The book is like a story though instead of a list of facts, which is always nice when reading historical things.

Really enjoyed this... historical novel about moonshiners and bootleggers. Made me want to drink some corn liquor.
