I really enjoyed the romance, angst and all. No spoilers, but chapter 26 was my favorite!
I didn't love the feeling of being back where we started at first, but because it became important later and resolved quickly, I didn't mind it in the end. Sorry, vague I know, but don't want to spoil things!
I was impressed by how the author handled the darker themes she included in the series. She placed an emphasis on the fact that no matter how dark our life gets and no matter how many mistakes we make, we are stronger than the darkness and can be shaped by it instead of drowning in it. I think it's a perfect approach for a teen target audience.
I also listened to this whole book on audio after trying it out with book two. I thought it was well done and it was nice to be able to listen to it while I drove and get through it quicker (I have a very fast-reading buddy read partner).
This series probably won't be a favorite or a reread for me, but I think it's a solid YA fantasy series and I definitely enjoyed it!

Wow did I feel every emotion with this one. If the last book destroyed you to, trust that in the end this one will heal you. I can not count of that mount of times I GASPED and slammed the book shut during those last 100 pages. Lynette sure knows how to make me cry my eyes out and keep me on my toes. Never in a million years would I have expected any of the outcomes given, but boy was I grateful for them.
I may have cursed her and shaken my fists whilst reading – but in the end Lynette Noni is a mastermind and her message of hope told within this story isn't one I think I'll ever forget.
I am now on my knees begging for this series to be read more often 🙏🙏
