It's probably me, not the book but I feel like I got nothing out of this but the irritating sense that it was trying hard to be some kind of masterpiece. Maybe that will change if I return to it down the line.

So glad I finally read this; loved it. Probably will re-read at some point.

I read this for the first time in a college literature class. Reading it now, it’s pretty tough not having anyone to talk to about it.

This book is so clever. It manages to evolve the tale of Jane Eyre without feeling derivative or lazy. The colonial twist puts such a twist on the original story that you’ll never look at Jane Eyre the same way.

If I was bound for hell let it be hell. No more false heavens. No more damned magic. You hate me and I hate you. We'll see who hates best. But first, first I will destroy your hatred. Now. My hate is colder, stronger, and you'll have no hate to warn yourself. You will have nothing.

Weird little book.
