The bones of a great story
I loved the mythology and characterisation behind this book, but it felt incredibly rushed. I wanted to dig into the back story more, as the actual antagonist of the story felt side lined to the intricacies of working for a news channel...
An easy read for fans of the genre

This was my 4th book by this author, and the 3rd from the Dark Earth Rising series. I really love this author! This one was a slow-burn with some folklore and nature involved. I do wish there had been more backstory about the Root Witch and the tree system, and maybe a little less about running the news station, but enjoyed the story and characters. Not my favorite of the Dark Earth Rising series, but a great book!

This was a 3 star book with a 1 star ending. The story I wanted was one about Nature. Not nature, but Nature - that terrible and beautiful force that we occasionally bump up against when we wander into the wild places. And what that force might turn into in a desperate attempt to survive.
But sadly, this book didn't give me that story. I disliked most of the characters except for Knox, Sandy, and Mitch. I wanted more of the story to take place in the forest. That part of the book I enjoyed. I was bored by Sandy's narrative and really didn't feel like it added anything to the book. And just when the book actually started focusing on the creature in the forest, it just ended.
