A thematic view of human history.

This book is the epitome of a mixed bag. There are some truly profound ideas and ideas that are painfully obvious. The book is all over the place chronologically, which gets tedious over time. Also, what's up with the cited works? My senior thesis had more sources...

All that in mind, this is a good book. I'd recommend it to people who are new to history. This is a good starting point.

An interesting, but slow, read. I’m not comfortable with the author’s insistence on neutrality when outlining humanity’s darker aspects.

Interesting listen. I had expected it to run relatively chronologically, but this only does so for a short while. The rest is typical and runs through the overlaps among various ideologies and finishes up with a series of theoretical views of the future based on current science and historical human desires.
