Conclave

4.08 AVERAGE

I did not think this would be a five-star read, but it so is. There is not a singular moment where I felt like the plot had grown slow or boring. The pacing was perfect, and the characters were fleshed out to a satisfactory level, especially Lomeli and Benitez. The story is believable, yet still thrilling. After every chapter, I told myself "Ah I know who's going to win the conclave now", but I was proven wrong time and time again until the very end. The ending is unique and done in such a subtle way without feeling forced. The little detail in the chapters before, where Lomeli notices Bentiez did not open his razor - I knew it would come in handy eventually. I have a lot more to say, but it would take me ages to type it out. Such a great book - gonna watch the film now.

When I started reading this book after I watched the movie, I did not expect to love it so much but wow. It has so much detail but never to the point of excruciation. It's unassuming but relentless I am so so charmed by the characters, especially Lomeli and Benitez, who are sooo interesting to me I wish to put them under a microscope. I'm not a religious person but I love conflicting portrayals of religion and faith, and Conclave delivers that in spades. Truly so so obsessed with this book and it definitely deserves a lot more hype

I saw the movie before reading the book. The movie, apparently, follows the book very closely, and I quite like both.
