What a profound, sad, haunting, hopeful little book. I've seen very mixed reviews on this, with some reviewers seeming to be upset that the book is, in fact, centered on women talking, without any other plot. But to me, and to my personal tastes, there is something truly breathtaking and awe-inspiring in witnessing these women making, perhaps for the first time ever, a decision for themselves. I loved this. I'm so glad I read it.

This is a heavy topic, while it’s a fictional story it’s based on real life events that are tragic. Book is a little slow at times but story was interesting.

Compelling and profound. Not a fan of the fact that the story is told from the perspective of a male narrator, though I understand the reasoning. I hate, with every fibre of my being, that it is based on real-life events.

I wanted to like it, but I struggled. Didn't hate it, so I did finish it. No quotation marks made it frustrating to read. And I understand why the person keeping a record had to be a man, but in the context (women being the focus) some of his reflections were annoying. And maybe I felt like parts of the book felt like they were going around in circles in the same way I've been in conversations that do that. Some nice ideas and all, but even those felt like it was a philosophy essay hidden in a novel.
