This is a fascinating comparison of two geniuses separated by almost 150 years! Hornby makes a compelling argument that these two iconoclasts were both driven by the same kind of manic genius. It’s a short, easy to read, thought provoking page-turner. Five stars!

Think of this more of an essay than a novel/short story.
I thought this was a great palette cleanser sort of book! Read after the heaviness of In Cold Blood.
Some interesting ruminations on productivity and anti-perfectionism. I haven't read a single Dickens and honestly don't know much Prince (outside of what I've danced to in my previous competition dancer life). This book made me want to change both of those things.

A good little book. It’s obvious the author admires these two artists. He offers comparisons between the two, which sometimes seem thin, but he makes a case for their greatness.

It’s a corker, a fun read that while demonstrating there is probably nothing to connect these two masters aside from Hornby’s love, there is that nothingness, er. A lot…oh just read and enjoy

I saw Nick Hornby and thought I have to read this. I get it and figure it's a fictional story. What a pleasure to learn it is an informed and emotionally engaging look at two artists and two cultures they worked within. Such an enjoyable read.

I found this book in a free little library and was happily surprised by it despite really having no interest in Dickens. The beginning is a bit slow but my interest picked up about a third in and it’s a short enough read to make the sacrifice.
