this was quite fun and intriguing at first but the last quarter really ruined it. when every revelation is expected... it was disappointing and predictable, which is a pity considering i had liked some of the creepy scenes in the beginning. this wasn't a drag to finish though, so that's a plus. unfortunately the plot just felt unoriginal and unrealistic.
Annoying, and what I will call convenient MC, lacking any depth… added to OTFT (now over the fucking top) unrealistic, unnecessary twists….. I can’t roll my eyes anyyyyyyy further back in my head.
This book had me completely hooked with its unexpected twists, buried family secrets, and a dark glimpse into the lives of the rich and famous.
Early on, I was convinced the two sisters were actually the same person with dissociative identity disorder, which would have been a wild plot twist, but the actual story still kept me guessing right up until the end. The plot did seem a bit over the top at times, but honestly, the lengths the wealthy will go to, and what they’ll cover up might surprise you… or maybe not.
While this book didn’t completely blow me away, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It was an engaging and entertaining read that kept me turning the pages.

•This was such a disappointment. I'm usually a fan of this author, but this one failed to engage me. I really tried—as evidenced by my finishing the story at all.
🎙️January LaVoy's narration was good. Could it have been better with another narrator? Probably not.

Received as an arc from Netgalley. I was really excited for this book but unfortunately was left underwhelmed. If you told me this was any other author, I would believe you because this book did not seem like a Sarah Pekkanen book. The premise was interesting but I felt like there were too many plot holes and questions not answered at the end. The twist was underwhelming and the ending felt irrelevant. I appreciated the short chapters and the duel POV between the sisters but I didn't feel like there was any character growth.

It’s official...I’ll read anything Sarah Pekkanen writes! The Locked Ward is a great story that keeps you guessing until the end. I listened to the audio version and read the ebook. I enjoy the mystery of Sarah’s books, such as The Glass House, and the complex mystery of this one does not disappoint.
Georgia Cartwright is accused of killing her younger sister, Annabelle Cartwright, and is locked in a psychological ward while awaiting trial rather than prison, due to her adopted family’s noteworthy & wealthy reputation. Georgia previously discovered a family secret- she was born a twin, and separated at birth. She’s able to contact her twin, Amanda (Mandy), who tells the other POV in the book.
Mandy visits Georgia, curious about the credibility of her claim to be twins. Georgia coerces Mandy to dive deeper into their family history of secrets by whispering to her, “I didn’t do it. You’ve got to get me out of here.” Mandy is thrust into investigating Georgia’s claim to be family and innocent for Annabelle’s death.
Once Mandy goes down the path into investigating the wealthy Cartwright family, she can’t stop. The story develops smoothly over dual POV of Georgia and Mandy. Shocking secrets are uncovered about the powerful family and Mandy’s world is turned upside down in this eerie & twisty thriller!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to the wonderful @stmartinspress and @macmillan.audio for the advanced copies. The Locked Ward will be release August 5th.
