The concept of this book was really good, but I think the execution was not as smooth. I listened to this book on audiobook and sometimes they pace of the book felt slow.

Imagine Jordan Peele directed a dystopian/thriller set at a WDW-style resort in the Shenandoah area of Virginia following a global crisis/climate event/food shortage.

This book became more twisted and violent than I expected. However, my college creative writing professor always said to put characters in the worst possible situation. Giles did; he went down some dark places to come up a plot more twisted than the roller coasters at Karloff Country.

This book reminds me of a Jordan Peele movie. Get out + black mirror + apocalypse. There were some parts that dragged for a bit while other parts escalated quickly and got quite dark so I can see why some people aren’t fans. Arguably a bit graphic for a YA novel, but character interactions def reminded me who the target audience was lol
