This could potentially be a modern horror classic GN if we’re being real - me, when I eat every DC black label up like it’s a 5 star meal. Mwah.

The art style is lovely and the concept is interesting. I love that it’s a lot of queer characters. I’m so bad at describing how I feel about things but!! It’s honestly a graphic novel I would rec to ppl interested in getting into graphic novels who like horreur + lgbt especially since this is a DC comic (non canon to the main comics obvi) and there’s only like a one sentence mention of superman + plus a username that’s timkon4lyfe mmmm killed me.

Boosted from a 4 to a 4.5 after Ashley & Bre’s live show. Plot theories were discussed in length. Made us all feel like the book had a well-developed mystery amongst great artwork. Can’t wait to see the answers revealed in volume 2.

Firstly, I’m a fan of these illustrations. I had my usual hard time of discerning between characters; but the style chosen really lends itself to the horror aspect. Secondly, this was six issues one volume, meaning I got a fair bit of the story from these 200 pages. I expected every plot twist except *one* in the middle but that didn’t deter from my enjoyment. I think some of the character’s reactions to the plot were extremely well done (particularly Molly’s, Sam’s, and David’s) and I loved the LGBT rep!

Beautiful. The writing and drawings were both phenomenal and kept me hooked the whole time. Even if you don’t read comics very often, you should definitely read this one!!

I'm not totally sure how I feel about this. I mean, I enjoyed it, but it ends so smack-dab in the middle of things really picking up that I felt a little jarred by the ending of this first volume. I definitely want to continue the series and I'm incredibly intrigued by the premise, and I need to know more about Walter and what is actually happening outside of the lake house/property.

All of the characters are a little hard to keep apart from one another, which is the main reason I'm only giving this 4 stars: I think a cast of characters this large doesn't work well in a graphic novel unless the art style lends well to telling everyone apart, and that isn't the case here. (They're also mostly obnoxious and fairly unlikable people, which is something I weirdly enjoy in stories, but if you don't, YMMV on the overall storytelling.)

Representation: multiple queer and/or BIPOC characters, one trans character

This was a book I bought from staff recommendations at Powell's with almost no information on what it was about, and I'm really glad I did. It's visually interesting and it feels like there's so much more of the mystery still to unpack. Can't wait for vol. 2 next year.
