Autobiography interspersed with hindu mythology.
Hindu mythology interspersed with autobiography.
Genesis. Queerness. Sexual identity. Gender identity.

This was everything. I am definitely in love with Vivek Shraya's writing.

This is an illustrated novel by the author of "God Loves Hair", a Lambda Literary Award finalist. After recently becoming aquainted with graphic novels, it's easy to imagine how much the illustrations will add to the narrative.
A physical book might also make it easier to know when the switch is made from one story to the next. Yet even with this slight issue, it was easy to follow the lyrical story.

A beautiful story about what it's like for a queer Hindu boy growing up in Canada. Loved the juxtaposition with stories about Hindu gods.

Felt like a tenderly and artfully constructed coming of age film in the same vein as Moonlight (2016). I really really loved how the two narratives dipped and wove into each other-it came together by the end quite unexpectedly but smoothly. And it was also so much more emotional poignant than I expected.

Such a refreshing and beautiful take on the bi experience for a person from a South Indian diaspora. Feels universal in its specificity.

Such stunning writing and depiction of both a grapple with queerness and identity. The discussions about bisexuality hit extremely hard, and felt so real. Also really enjoyed the beautiful writing of such a real and full relationship.

I did also enjoy the re-imaging of Hindu mythology that is interweaves throughout, although in audiobook format it was hard to follow when we had switched perspectives.

But a solid beautiful book.
