Ok so book 2 is not as spicy as it could have been, but for something that’s essentially high fantasy road trip with two people lying about their identity to each other, it’s also not tooooo terrible.
I will say that it disappointed me in what it seemed to setup in the dynamic vs what it devolved into. Both Bellamy and Rakos end up too samey, and the sameiness is borderline too asinine.
Like, I don’t know if I wasn’t paying attention or what, but it feels like around the 67% mark, during a sex scene, when Rakos’s voice seems to change from a stoic and grizzly experienced guy to a babbling and nervous mess. His personality kind of disintegrates from there for me.
Also the ending doesn’t make sense.If Bellamy’s headaches are caused by too much magic around the castle, then how does moving to a dragon roost, which is CLOSER to scalestone somehow better for him???
I didn’t hate the book, but it was borderline a struggle to finish. I still hope for some edge to return in the next book, but I have to be cautiously optimistic because it’s not looking good.
