This is my first time reading a book by Etgar Keret. I really enjoyed it a lot and definitely will read another one by him. This one is a great book, though I give it only four stars, because I find it hard to read more than a few chapters at the same time.
There is few things that stood out in the book:
The way the writer was able to give a critique on a lot of different fields and sometimes it is on the same story - on its few pages. He wrote stories that describe feelings more than anything else. The reality of those feelings was placed in its place.
Another thing stood out, was the fact that everything stood on the dark side of the world and this is what works best in this kind of stories. The reality has it is darkness- anger, sadness, hatred, depression and lies. They are feelings that are placed in it is proper place in each story in the book. Overall, they act as the main story in the book. However, Those dark feelings may seem too much for some people but if we compare them to the real world, we will understand that this is how the world works. So, we gotta deal with It, afterall, it is not a happy ever after story- the real world has it is two sides, the happy and the hard times. And each one of us in the world is the main hero in his own life and he gotta deal with both!
one more thing stood out was the way the writer addressed different groups of people. I wondered if he had prejudices about them or if it is or because he felt that this is the way that it fits so he could describe them in the stories and successfully deliver their real story with its harsh and sad reality they face each day. The last may justify the way he addressed them better.

Through each one of the stories, the writer succeeded to give a whole different new side on the daily lives of our lives. Sometimes he gives a harsh one but in the end, it is what reality has on it.
In some way or another, I think the readers will find themselves on at least one of the book stories characters or has at least one side of them similar to the character.
Hence, we all can learn something, about our harsh reality or the proper way to deal with it!

I am pleasantly surprised. I didn't know what to expect, but most of the stories were quite good. I'm definitely gonna read more short stories by him.

Didn’t spend three months reading these very short stories. Got a library copy well in advance of the book club meeting day because I was leading the discussion and wanted extra time to prepare.

Discussion went well. Not everyone liked Keret but a lively conversation. Applause at the end!

A wonderful collection of poignant, funny, bizarre, biting and clever stories. Each had its own twist, turn or insightful moment. A real pleasure to read and many stories will stay with me for a long time.
