A bit slow moving. Lena isn't super likable, mostly because she's pretty dense. Perhaps a bit predictable of a story line, but maybe only because I've been reading a lot of teen Dystopian love stories recently. I am interested in what will happen in the next book of the trilogy, and will stick with it.

Admittedly, there are some problems with Delirium. Alex was too stereotypical, he could have been created from a check-list of Admirable Traits In Love Interests; and the effects of raising several generations of kids without love were not explored as they should have been. (Wouldn't that have a rather large impact on society? Certainly crime rates would go up.) Also, at times I found Lena rather cowardly, uptight, and anal, (and though I suppose that added to the realism of it all, I prefer to read about characters who are stronger and braver and as little like myself as possible. Who wants to escape from their life into a story only to find that the main character is a carbon copy of themselves?)

But in the end, the flaws mattered very little to me because I have a HUGE weakness for Noble Sacrifice endings. It is the biggest of The Big Gestures, and when I see one character laying down his/her life for another, I just melt like butter, and all the issues I have with the book in question are eclipsed by an emotional tidal wave. It is rare for a book to evoke such a strong reaction in me, but Delirium had me bawling like a baby. For that, I am giving it four stars.

Before I Fall may have been Lauren Oliver's masterpiece, but Delirium is a nice addition to her gallery.

Oh my goodness. Wow. I randomly downloaded this a few hours ago on a whim after seeing a blog post about it and was sucked in. What an ending. What a world the writer built. What a sad world. What beautiful passages about two young people falling in love. I think the last page was my favorite bit of the entire book. I loved the characters, especially Alex. I'm sad the time passed so quickly, but I couldn't stop reading...
