OMG. First off, I could not put this book down—the narrative was that compelling (and I’m a little tired of coming of age stories). Secondly, I never, ever, want to be an astronaut, but the true life autobiographies sound amazingly compelling.
Thirdly, I think the protagonist, June’s, inhabitation of her dream—her obsession—is a beautiful thing. The author captures what it is to know you are destined for something and that the journey can be more compelling than the destination.

It’s problematic and I don’t care. So easy to read despite being heavy on the science fiction.
Loved getting lost in June’s mind and world. Big on girl power with small nod to romanticism. Can see this becoming a movie easily.

loved the idea of this one but the execution just wasn't there :/
I truly enjoyed this read. A good clever protagonist. Confused by it being called. "romance" however. The romance seems.... Extraneous? Unnecessary? Added on? Perhaps just my feelings coming through but the story of triumph over the hugeness of space and the frailty of humans is larger and more beautiful than a careless and possessive man's touch.

This book was indifferent to its own plot. A flat and emotionless tale, like the writer could not be bothered to care or try to make the reader care. I wanted to like it anyway, so I plowed on but it never really got better and then ended in such a boring way, even though it was what we wanted all along.

Also that relationship was not cool and it is also not cool that this is tagged as LGBTQIA+ when the representation is laughably slim. I knew immediately when 12 year old June saw the adult James at the launch in the beginning that it was going to be a set up for an inappropriate relationship and I was sadly right. Just because she was 18 (at least, not sure how much time passed) by the time they got together does not make it less creepy.

(Listened to the audiobook.) I liked the main character and story background - a great role model (more or less) for girls and young women that want to get into a STEM career. But I personally would have preferred more plot points. The book is rather short, so I felt like things were just getting interesting - and suddenly it was over. I guess I was left wanting more, which could be a compliment for the author…
