This is the type of book that keeps you wondering the truth the entire time. There was definitely a darkness to this book that made me think WTH? but I enjoyed the fact it was very different from my normal read. I enjoyed this easy suspense filled book and would recommend it. :)

Couldn’t get into it, I just kept wanting more to happen, main character doesn’t help herself in any way which frustrated me. It’s well written and bounced along enough to keep me reading until the end.
I really enjoyed this book! About halfway through, I had to put it down because I was starting to feel sort of melancholy, but I picked it back up and finished it overnight and I’m so glad I did. Gillian Flynn is such a master of the genre she writes in and so good at making her characters feel like real, fleshed-out people without being boring. The structure of the story was great and the end left me hopeful for what was to come in the main character’s life, just like Sharp Objects.
The book does deal with lots of heavy themes (obviously), but I had such a sense of relief and catharsis at the end. I can’t wait to read Gone Girl!

Although a bit dark at times (as is to be expected of Gillian Flynn's works), Dark Places is a gripping novel. If I had had the time to have finished it in one sitting, I probably would have.
This is my least favorite of Gillian Flynn's three suspense novels, but probably only because my expectations are so high. It's still a very solid story with a complex and engaging main character that kept me moving quickly along with rapt attention while layers peel back to expose long buried secrets and lies. I can't wait to read Flynn's next book - she's on my short list of must-read suspense novelists.
I picked this book up because I am a big fan of Gone Girl, but this book did not measure up. I thought the plot was too slow and nothing really interesting happened until the last 75 pages of the book. I was just reading it to get to the end and it felt like a chore to read just so I could find out what actually happened. It came to a surprising but abrupt end which I did not appreciate. I wanted more closure.
