Although fairly bleak in its outlook and ending, this novel appealed to me. It was an interesting take on the zombie novel, and different can be good, if it is well written, as this was.

A very mind-numbingly slow book, but the end was good, so I will continue with the rest of the series.

All I can say is thank heavens I'm finished with this book. It could be read in one sitting, but it was so mind-numbingly boring that I couldn't do it. The characters were unlikeable, undeveloped, and honestly, hard to distinguish from the "cadavers." Yes, cadavers, corpses, bodies, whatever you want to call them - the author doesn't call them zombies. Whatever you call them, I was hoping they would attack the three characters this book centered on and take them - and me - out of our misery. I can't imagine reading the sequels to this book. I imagine grabbing the phone book and sitting down and reading it would make for better entertainment.

Truly terrible. Basically nothing new happened the entire book. Characters are boring and talk in circles. I could skip pages at a time and not miss anything even though this is a pretty short book. I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because there were some parts that I enjoyed a paragraph or profound sentence, but other than that it was just awful. I was super excited to read this too because of the description……so disappointed.

Too slow to begin, too many characters with too little depth to give two shits about. While the action picks up in the final third, it was too tedious until that point.

While the Autumn series may have been ahead of the new wave of zombie novels ( like World War Z and Warm Bodies ) and probably suffers because of this ( newer books have better articulated stories and refreshing takes on the trope ) it can't excuse Moody's writing which is clinical to the point of sterile. The book suffers from too much telling and not enough showing in a third person style reminiscent of the detachment of journalism without any of the interesting things that may have been done with that approach ( World War Z ).

A little like Rice's 'Interview with a Vampire' it ends without actually ending, leaving the reader with the terrible temptation to continue on with the next book despite what is likely to be an unsatisfying read. So I believe Mr Moody, this is where you and I will part company and I will ignore the fact I will never know what happens to those left stranded inside the bunker.

I could not get into this book at all. The characters are imbecils. The story line drags and drags for what seems like decades. There is no real rhyme or reason to the story line. I tried to finish it, I just coould not do it. This is the first time ever that I could not stick with it. I normally am able to tough it out even if a book is poorly written however this was just way worse than dime store book bad. Just a waste of time really.

Clunky writing really distracted from the story but it was a good way to get my mind off whatever might be troubling it at the moment.

Maybe I expect to much out of a zombie book. But, this had just a few tense moments. I liked it less than the others in the series. All the action started towards the end of the book. It was realistic. Just in terms of how people would behave if something like a zombie apocalypse were to happen. David Moody typically tries to bring some humanity to his zombies. If that makes sense.

A great addition to the zombie genre. Moody did a great job with the Hater series in really bringing you into the action and emotion of what an apocalypse feels like, and with this story he really brings you into the Zombie Apocalypse. I love that everyone in the story has a fear of the walking dead, even though they weren't even aggressors for most of the story. It's a really great slow burn novel. I hope to read the other 4 in the series by the end of the year.
