I really enjoyed the parts of the book where Backman learned about the culture of Italy/Europe and the language. The descriptions of Bologna were great, and I liked how Backman adapted and continually thwarted the CIA. The ending was terrible: semi-unbelievable and wrapped up too quickly to boot. Almost felt like Grisham was holding out so he could write a sequel.

Of the 18 JG books I've read, this was my least favorite.
The story starts out with 3 kids hacking into a mystery satellite system which they then write software to control. The Broker gets involved and ends up in prison in the first 10% of the book. Once he gets out, the next 60% of the book is "Frommer's Guide to Italy, as written by JG".
The vast majority of the book is spent in Italy learning Italian, eating, drinking, touring the city. It's VERY slow, but interesting from a tourist standpoint.
Then 70% through the book, it kicks into high gear and gets interesting.
The ending is a bit of a reach.
All in all, this feels like an experiment in a new genre which didn't quit work out.

Audiobook, fun thriller. "Marco" pardoned so that he can be ferried out of the country and his location leaked to other countries who want him dead. Contest to see who can outwit their opponent.

I don't usually get bored in books, but I wanted to finish this book as fast as possible to get it over with. It was a good story, just a little slow for me I guess.

Sometimes it’s just fun to go on a ride with a character on the run in Italy. Don’t think too hard about if you even care whether he lives/dies. Just enjoy it.

Granted I'll likely read another Grisham book because they are entertaining, The Broker was a huge disappointment and nothing like the novels from Grisham's glory days.
