Was expecting to learn a lot from this, given it’s a potential career path for me, but I was dissapointed in the amount of scientific information as well as career information I got. The writing felt either way too above my head or way too elementary (mostly elementary).

Ever since I finished this book, I have grown a new appreciation for trees! I find myself noticing them more. I enjoyed reading about her life and liked the connections she made between herself and the life of a tree.

3.5 rounded up to 4. Loved the structure of the book, but general dislike for science academia and the culture it perpetuates.

The book was a slow start for me but it piqued my interest for sure. I really enjoyed how the author had short chapters describing a cycle or process in the life of a plant that somehow coincided with what the next chapter would be about.

Overall, an interesting and informative read.

Maybe more 3.5. Rewarding in the end, but required a lot of patience to get there.

An extraordinary sciencey memoir, full of insights and information I didn't even know I wanted to care about. I cried at least 3 times while listening to this book; Jahren explains her love of science and trees in such an engaging way. As someone who loves both science and nature, I can't recommend this book enough. (The epilogue and end notes are also crammed with research information and data!)
