Beautiful, but of course also very predictable.
I really didn't want him to get the prize though. It should have gone to his friend.

Haven't seen the movie although I've heard it's just as good, but this is a must read. If only the world was filled with kinder people like the children in this novel...

This book has an average rating of 4.40, and if you take the GR rating system literally, it means the majority of Wonder’s readers really enjoyed it or loved it.
I feel rather lonely here in the sea of glowing reviews.
Before you get your pitchforks: no, I am not heartless. I didn't enjoy the book, even though I really, really wanted to.

Like most contemporaries, this is a character-driven story. For me to enjoy one of its kind, I have to care for the people in it. Not necessarily like them, just care for them so I can be invested in the story. I could not care less for these characters.
August just annoyed me and I would’ve rather read a book surrounding the secondary characters but I felt like they weren't fleshed-out enough either. They all had a connection to August, which worked as their only role and trait. We really just saw the main character from other people's point of view, and their thoughts weren't that distinct.
I feel like this book tried to manipulate me; force me to feel pity for this boy. He was dull as dishwater and annoying, and gave me no reason to care for him other than his facial deformity.
I was happy to see the secondary characters treat August well, because kids can be really cruel to people who are different. Other than that, I have nothing to say. I felt nothing while reading Wonder.
The plot was slow and I had to force myself to finish the book.
It was plain, nothing special, so very meh.

Rosy-tinted, but still incredibly touching.

The best books are the ones that make you empathize. Throughout the book I was thinking about how all the other characters would react. I was extremely happy when there was actually a change in the 'Point of View'. Reading a book like this makes you wonder what you would do in the same situations the characters were going through. It was a very heartwarming story.

What a great book! The dialogue and language is so accurate to the age represented in this story. Just beautiful.

Let's be kind to one another and let's not put too much importance on outward appearance.

This was a really wholesome little story about a boy with facial anomalies, who is going to school for the first time. It's a story about kindness, courage and friendship. It's simply written, which really fits because it feels like it can be read by someone of the boy's age. It's a lighthearted but important story that makes you want to hug every character.

5/5, I flew through this book and saved a ton of quotes from it.
