Wonderful :) Beautifully plotted, charactered, and twisted. Cannot speak too well of this one; highly recommend.
This is a classic war novel. WWII, and an elite team of soldiers is sent in to sabotage the two big guns on the island of Navarone, in order to enable a rescue mission to save soldiers stranded on a nearby island. All the (un)expected twists and turns along the way. A great plot an a good read!
Great example of the wartime adventure story. Does everything it should.
I listened to the BBC Radio adaptation, which follows the book but has some omissions. It was short and fun, exactly what you'd expect from a BBC retelling of a swashbucking adventure book. Over-the-top heroics, Bad bad guys, Good good guys, explosions, gunfire, etc. There was nothing realistic about the story (if you have seen the movie Armageddon, it's at about that level of action), but it was a welcome change from the straight reading of other audiobook formats, and made this reader look for more BBC adaptations of novels.
Simple fun and time-waster, no deep message here.

A fantastic take of derring do in WW2. Action packed and well written. Ideal for breaks or holidays. An easy and light read.

I think Alistair MacLean might be the only one who can make me love a war story. The suspense is excellent and the character development is exceptional. You love the good guys and loathe the bad guys, and you feel like you know these people to the depths of their souls. There is some technical jargon regarding guns, engines, explosives and such that I skim over but it doesn't detract from the flow of the story at all.
A fun read that was much better than the movie yet I probably wouldn’t have picked it up unless I’d seen the movie. Great buildup yet it did finish a bit too quickly.
