9/10. I really enjoyed this book. Not gonna lie, the beginning was pretty confusing and I was worried that it was gonna stay that way. However, after only like 3 (short) chapters, it got really good. I love the alternating POV. My only slight critique of this book was that there was A LOT going on. There were multiple complicated plot points and a lot of side characters but overall, I think the author did a nice job of having a lot going on but only enough that it advanced the story in an organic way. Also, the romance was nice, though I wish the characters were aged up just a couple years (not in a weird way, 16/17/18 just seems really young to be for the maturity levels of these characters). I am always a sucker for the "he fell first" and "he fell harder" tropes. Also, as a disabled person, I appreciated how the fmc's disability was incorporated and acknowledged. Definitely recommend.

A Beauty & the Beast retelling in a Disney's Descendants x ACOTAR kind of way, wrapped in addictive writing.
Many books are marketed as YA even tho they're not. But this book is really YA, which - in combination with the fast pacing - scared me at first. But especially Kremmerers style makes you want to know more, flying through the pages - I've read this in less than half a day, seriously, couldn't put it aside.
Also there's some kind of comfort in this book, like you already know it?
Still it feels like an adventure and when I tell you MY JAW DROPPED AT THAT END.

It's not my typical choice of book but still an enjoyable (easier) read!

 Overall Thoughts:
⁕ I wouldn't say there is anything special about the plot or character development in comparison to other YA retellings. But goodness was it an addicting comfort read. The fast-paced chapters and familiar tropes had me devouring this in a day. It's like brain junk food.

⁕ This tries and fails so hard to be a feminist story. Harper is a kick-butt heroine, but it doesn't negate the "pick me"/"not like other girls" energy, strong enforcement of traditional gender roles, and lack of consent that is prevalent throughout the text.

⁕ The ending has a wacky, cobbled-together feel to it. A solution to one of the major conflicts appears out of seemingly no where and it didn't feel as satisfying as I would have hoped.

⁕ The characters in this book are more diverse than other Beauty and the Beast retellings. I especially appreciate the disability rep.
