What?! Like what the heck, how can she leave us hanging like that? I realize she has 2 more books in the series, so I will be reading those. Overall, I enjoyed the book. Harper the main character is likeable. I like that Harper isn't perfect as nobody is and she's okay with that. Rhen is not very likeable in the beginning and he knows this about himself to a degree as he talks about the difficulties he has with Harper to Grey his commanding guardsman. Grey is both likeable and dislikeable. It depends on the choices he has to make. Being a guardsman really comes first for him.
My favorite part is when Harper give Grey the nickname Scary Grey because of his stance as a guardsman and his duty to protect the prince, Rhen. There were 2 things I wish had been done differently. 1) At the beginning, the author's action scene when Harper is being taken and shortly there after, is disjointed with very short sentences. I found it to be annoying, but also the only time I really saw this happening in the book this way. 2) In some areas, I felt the author was very descriptive while other areas she wasn't. Like with Grey, I don't really recall much of his description except that he has dark messy hair, but Lilith is very detailed.

I started reading this book expecting nothing. I had it on my shelf for almost two years because I tought it would be some boring generic fantasy book but it actually got me out of my reading slump.
I was rooting for Rhen and Harper for like 90% of the time and then at the last few chapters I realised Grey deserves SO MUCH BETTER and I want a spinoff from his perspective. I wouldn't even mind if in the next book he would come back to the castle and Harper would fall in love with him instead because at one point I really tought that would happen.
But I still love Rhen and Harper tough. I love how after a few days BOTH of them were like 'You are so close to me and I want to touch you and I care about you but I DO NOT HAVE FEELINGS FOR YOU IT WILL NOT HAPPEN'. I really like how their relationship grew each chapter and everytime they had a cute interaction 'Doughnut' by Twice started playing in my head.
Overall, better than I expected. This is definitely not a 5 stars book but I will give it 5 stars because I had a great time reading it.

Another amazing retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
Loved Harper! Another fierce, badass character, who overcame every obstacle in her own way. I read the second half of the book in a day and I’m ready for the sequel.

Yikes, that was... an experience. I feel so conflicted about rating what I just read. On one hand, I strongly believe that this was a bad book. I really disliked Brigid Kemmerer's writing style, the romance took almost 500 pages to develop but still felt rushed and unearned, and the story was a total snoozefest. Yet... I kind of liked it? This book was a fun read - almost like a guilty pleasure, and I would be lying if I said I didn't at least partially enjoy it. Maybe I recommend this book? Maybe I don't? Sigh.
PROS:
-Cerebral palsy representation
-GREY (it helps to picture him as Richard Madden)
-Occasional witty banter
CONS:
-The "not like other girls" trope (ugh this killed me)
-The tepid queer "representation"
-The horrid mess of an ending (pretty much the last 150 pages)

3 stars, 0 spice (YA, a couple kisses)
A pretty straight forward beauty and the beast retelling. It was okay, didn't feel super special, and I never got super invested in the characters.
Looks like most people enjoyed this book the most in the series, so I do not plan to continue

The book was pleasant and enjoyable. But, it was the kind of book that I wish I had only borrowed on Kindle rather than purchasing a hard copy. I read the book quickly and enjoyed imagining its world, but don’t believe I’ll find myself picking it up again.
