to anyone reading this - i am extending an open invite for someone to explain what i just read because i have no idea!
ive tried googling explanations and they seem to come out of nowhere.... like the plot twist felt like it came from left field.
the first third of the book i enjoyed! i loved seeing the personalities of the bunny's and how samantha falls deeper and deeper into their "cult". but around part 3 of this book i feel like it just begins throwing shit at the wall and praying something sticks. like im still so confused.
ive seen people saying the ritual aspect and supernatural themes were metaphors but i don't understand how... and people are saying samantha is unreliable? how? like after the third part i see how but.. there's not any hints to show that to me.
ive never been more confused about a book in my life. i still feel like so much is left unexplained to the point there's not really a point, and instead there is no "deeper meaning" to whatever i just spent 373 pages reading.
i just borrowed rouge from my library and im hoping my issue is isolated to this book and isn't a symptom of awad's work because i did not enjoy the ending! im so serious if this was more mystery novel rather than what it was i could see this being a 4-star but as it is... im so fucking lost

but that was also frustrating. we got so lost in samantha's mind (which is an impressive writing feat, so clearly masterfully done), that it was incredibly hard to find the "point" of the story. the book feels like it has so much to say, so much that it can say, and i wish for there to be a "point" to it all. for the book, or the author, to tell me how to read it, how to interpret it. but maybe the beauty is in how multi-interpretable it is, in the end, and maybe the fact that i feel this frustration only means the writing is that good, because this is a book that i keep coming back to and re-thinking about.
