wow. just wow. this is the first mona awad novel i’ve read and i was not disappointed. it’s gory and absurd and downright disturbing. i loved it. i never had any clue what was going to happen next, and i was always pleasantly surprised at what she had in store. there was so much symbolism and so many metaphors and i’m sure i didn’t even catch them all. the characters were so full-fledged and yet so empty? since we were seeing everyone and everything through samantha’s eyes, there was this veil of blissful ignorance draped over everything. i would have loved to get a peek into what the bunnies saw.
my favorite part of the whole book has to be max’s whole “performance piece” with the bunnies in the cave. watching their perfect, carefully curated, fake identities collapse was so satisfying and mildly humorous.

Utterly thought provoking and wrapped in unique yet deliciously descriptive prose. Themes and intent of the book seemed to change on a dime somewhat to its detriment (maybe I just didn’t fully grasp it), but I’m not mad about, simply just sitting here wondering what it was possibly all about. Great as a potential “dark academia” staple, particularly as it contends with ideas of privilege, class, pretension, and the Academy as a navel-gazing voyeur of poverty and suffering, though there’s much more to the story than this.

This is book is super unpredictable which is what makes it good and bad. The plot was hard to follow and times and was difficult to understand. However the funny social commentary on academia as well as the horror plot meshes well. Could have been executed slightly better but either way i enjoyed it

i kind of loved how insane this was. i found myself jumping from theory to theory to try to make sense of something, but then i would immediately be hit with another layer to the story. i already knew to expect chaos going into this book, but i was pleasantly surprised with the overarching metaphors and meta-ness of the journey. i would highly recommend this if you’re open to an unconventional mean girls-meets-dark-academia story that leaves you wondering if it was all just delusion.

Demented, feverish, and just plain strange, Bunny forcibly blends Mean Girls with Jennifer's Body into a bloody, satirical tale about cults, cliques, academia, repression, and internalized misogyny. You can either reject the novel because of its excessive animal symbolism and juvenile main character or tumble down the rabbit hole in a blurry, imaginative frenzy that leaves you dazed long after you read it.

I did have a lot of fun reading this book. I love horror, I liked the way the narrator would slip in and out of thoughts & conversations.

It was a little milquetoast in its character representation & ending. Like yeah of course they’re all white and of course they’re all thin and of course the outcast is a little alternative. Really disappointed with the use of the R word & ableism & fatphobia throughout the book.

The ending was also lazy. Ha-ha the villains are broken and that’s their comeuppance? Broken limbs? There could have been so many more twists and turns but it was really like the one graphic thing that happened and everything else was the come down. I didn’t need all that info on how she was just laying in bed and the different ways in which she was laying in bed lmao.
