I found this book brilliant! It was easy to jump right in and really immerse myself in the story. I loved the drama and intensity of the story, packed with lots of details. The characters where detailed, with lots of personality and they really brought the story to life.
I loved the overall pace, as it made the story very realistic and created a great flow to the overall feel.
I truly enjoyed this book and story Abbott had to tell. It is a great DCI thriller and has definitely got me hooked.

Enjoyed the first half of this book but then it got very unbelievable. Guessed the killer early on too, it was very obvious.

i feel like i would have liked this more if i’d read some more of this series but it definitely still works as a standalone! truly had no idea where any of this was going until about 80% in; soooo many twists and things linking up unexpectedly

I adored this one, the twists and turns were entertaining and I liked the character dynamics.

Plot - Full of mystery, I was constantly trying to figure out who was lying and what actually happened.

Writing Style - I enjoyed how the chapters progressed through the days, plus the additions of snippets from the past which gave more teasers.

Characters - I found them varied and interesting, but I did want to know more about the detectives - which just means I'll have to check the previous books out.

Believability - Collecting and following the evidence felt realistic.

Pace - Whilst the majority of the book only covers one week, there is so much action packed in.

Ending - A bit of a shocking ending but it was good shocking. I thought it tied everything up but also gave breadcrumbs for the next book.

Book 11 in the DCI Tom Douglas series - it can be read as a standalone, but it means I have 10 more great books to delve into.

*I received a complimentary copy of the book from RandomThingsTours and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

First book from Rachel Abbott and I spoiled the Detective Chief Inspector Tom Douglas storyline😩
Why I did not realize that this one was the 11th book from the series??? I just saw the title of the book which does not contain "DCI Tom Douglas#11) and went for it.
All books in the series are good stand-alone ones, but the Chief Inspector Tom Douglas is a main character who oversees the relevant investigations, sharing about his private life as well.

4.5⭐ rounded up

PLOT: 5⭐
Nathan is accused of sexual harassment at his corporate law firm. Taya`s kid was kidnapped. Aka is accused of blackmailing someone.. They are all friends but lost touch after one night at the park, 15 years ago near Manchester. What happened? The strike of crimes keeps rolling and their lives are collapsing. Is there any connection between the different crimes?

The book consists of more storylines, different main characters, different PoVs, several crimes. Tom Douglas DCI is the leader of the investigation, who starts to put together the puzzle. In the meantime, he is facing some serious problems in his private life as well. Are the perpetrators the real perpetrators or only victims?

Excellent, enjoyable storyline, more complex than Freida McFadden`s books. The vibe is though very similar to "In the Dark" by Loreth Anne White.

TWIST, SUSPENSE: 4⭐
1⭐ minus: I wished the ending major twist had been more put together. It was tenseful, however, the deep catharsis was missing. Not bad though, I kept guessing how the different crimes are coming together and what was the root-cause.

SYTLE: 5⭐
I really liked the fact that it was not a simple one storyline (beginning-end), but there were different support storyline and support characters. I was emotionally invested in the Chief Inspector`s private life as well and am curious what is going the happen with the brother.. this story was kept open, I guess for the next book with Tom Douglas 🤗

I will definitely read more from Rachel Abbott - she should be going viral!! The only reason she has not gone viral is that her books has some kind of complexity to it (more than 1 storyline), which the mainstream cannot handle.😑

This book was such an incredible read. This book is part of a series (DCI Tom Douglas), although it can be read as a stand alone. This book is mainly told from the perspective of a couple, Mallory and Nate, who’s relationship seems strained and it about to become even more complicated. We also get to read from the perspective of DCI Tom Douglas, his team are having to deal with a missing woman and a child abduction case. The team have a lot to work out and there are many twists they discover.

The characters in this book are very mysterious, even down to some of the main characters. Mallory and Nate do seem to have a lot of bad luck and their group of friends who they grew up with all seem dodgy in the present day. There was so much emotion in this book, from the baby being abducted to the lies and deceit felt from Mallory. The author does an amazing job at portraying these emotions and I truly felt bad for these characters and all the things that happened to them.

This book has such an amazing plot, as I mentioned above, the detectives having to investigate both of these horrendous cases was intriguing. Then beginning to see the links of these crimes to the group of friends as more and more events/situations happen. The plot twists in this book happen all the way until the end and I love how I was kept entertained until the final page of the book. I couldn’t figure out who had committed the crime until it was reveals at about 90% way through the book. In some thrillers, it can be clear to see who had done it, but in this book it was impossible for me to guess.

Overall, this was such a great book, I highly recommend reading this and the rest of this authors work. I was hooked on this book from the prologue and I was constantly thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it.
