Honestly i was worried about continuing with this series despite the first book being a surprise hit for me. They are really quite dark in tone and frankly the stramy scebes in book one were really bad.

I am happy to be proven wrong! I would say this book is significantly better than the first in many ways. It has a bit of a slower start but the meat of the story is really hard hitting.

Im pleasantly surpfised by how different the mmc are. They could easily be clones and instead the author develops them really well.

So this book was the opposite of Pestilence in that the forced proximity made sense but the romance didn’t. Miriam getting swept up into War’s camp? Reasonable. Yet somehow even with all the time Miriam and War spent together I don’t understand how she fell in love with him. Perhaps it was too subtle for me. Additionally the story ends with some things still unanswered which is irritating. Romance aside the plot was interesting and had enough action to be exciting at times.

I loved Miriam as a character. When I think of someone able to overcome the apocalypse, she’s the type to survive.
There were some points of the story that felt incredibly familiar to the first of the series. And at first, I was concerned that the author couldn’t make substantially different storylines when the premise of both book (or the whole series) is the same. My fear was that two stories of Apocalypse Harbingers fallings for women desperate to stop them by any means, couldn’t possibly be unique and interesting. While there were similar elements to the stories, I am happy to say the fear was mostly unfounded.
