Such a feel-good book! It immediately transported me to the charming town of Whistle Stop, Alabama starring a cast of eccentric and memorable characters. I love the themes of female empowerment and friendship in this book. As uncomfortable as the blatant racism could be at times in the book, I think it acknowledged accurately how things were back in the day. I liked the way the story was told and how new characters were introduced with the back-and-forth timelines between Whistle Stop Cafe and the nursing home with Ninny and Evelyn. And now I just really want to eat fried green tomatoes!

Writing: you feel like you’re in Alabama
Plot/characters: it’s the story of Whistle Stop, Alabama and the people who lived there. It jumps back and forth between the 30s and present day. You fall in love with the characters.
Profundity: I’m not sure how the racial story plays out in today’s world. But the heart of the story is that you love good people, and they will love you back. I loved all the people in the story. They come to life for you.
