I've read probably close to all of Kristen Proby's books and I've enjoyed them all for one reason or another but I think When We Break might be my new favorite. I found this book to have had a different style than some of her other romantic suspense novels I felt more of the on the edge of your seat suspense in this book than in other of her suspensey books. Also this might be her first book with a more dominant male lead (in the bedroom) than what I've seen in previous books by her and I lived that it was a bit more spicy.
One stand out character in When We Break isn't a human but Skyla's service dog, Riley. I am the biggest dog lover and have always been intrigued by all the different types of service animals there are beyond seeing eye dogs. Riley is trained to dent and protect Skyla when someone approaches her from behind. And reading about how he was able to help Skyla with her stalker related PTSD was so interesting.
I have really enjoyed the two books in The Blackwells of Montana Series that have come out so for and I can't wait for book three. Kristen has been teeing up book three with female lead, Billie, since the beginning of the series.

Beckett Blackwell & Skyla
AUDIO

๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ

Hoooo boy. This had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the *ahem* jerk to get his comeuppance. Add in a romance that had me cheering for them the whole book and this was a great listen. Please do check the trigger warnings because the suspense plot line involves st@lking. Iโ€™m kind of obsessed with Beckett and the aftercare and pampering that he gives Skyla. Oh. And he reads her smutty books out loud and is fully invested in those books now. And acts them out. ๐Ÿฅต yeah. Run to go get this one.

Skyla was a prima ballerina until an injury forced her to retire. But the way that she received that injury is the reason she ran from NYC to Montana. She canโ€™t trust her judgement in men, clearly, but Beckett is a temptation that is hard to resist. Even if he is her best friendโ€™s older brother.

๐“๐ก๐ž story centers around Skyla. After her dancing career ends, she leaves NYC and finds solace in the lively town of Bitterroot Valley, Montana. Making friends and feeling content is when she meets the handsome cowboy dairy farmer Beckett Blackwell. As their relationship blossoms, a dangerous man obsessed with Skyla threatens their peaceful life, but Beckett is not one to be intimidated and Skyla is done running.

๐ˆ loved this story and the main characters. They have great communication, are comfortable in their skin, and know exactly what they want. Beckett, especially, is the full package. He's a charming and attentive partner, not only indulging in Skyla's spicy books but also showering her with affection. They were a match made in heaven. And as if I didn't need more reasons to love this book, there's Riley, Skylaโ€™s loyal service dog, the most incredible fur baby! He helps Skyla overcome her fears.

Skyla and Beckett lived up to what I had in my mind. What we knew from the authors teases the last month, I was anxious for this book. Beckett is another swoon worthy Proby male lead. How he does not give up on Skyla, and once she agrees to a date, he treats her like a queen. He also realizes she and her dog, Riley, are a team.

Skyla is the prima ballerina, but due to an injury, is sidelined. She also has a little matter of a former beau who is a little obsessed. These factors have her headed to Montana. She does a great job starting over in her new home. I love her strength, yet watching her walls crumble as Beckett makes her feel safe โ€“ swoon. Another Blackwell brother has fallen.

I did not want this book to end. I loved all the new characters we have met, and I hope we see more of them soon. We do get a cameo or two of past families.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

When We Break by Kristen Proby is an interesting & steamy small town romance with a mystery woven throughout between a former ballerina & cowboy thatโ€™s on pointe.

This is book #2 in The Blackwells of Montana series, which can easily be read as a standalone. However, Iโ€™ve enjoyed everything Iโ€™ve read by this author & I do recommend this entire series.

When We Break is great for those looking to readโ€ฆ
๐Ÿฉต Spicy Small Town Romance

๐Ÿฉต Heroine in Danger

I live for a hero that loves his heroine to the ends of the earth & treats & cares for accordingly & Beckett is the definition of that & swoon worthy. It is evident right from the start that this pair is meant to be. I always love romance mixed with some mystery & suspense & Kristen Proby does an excellent job of creating easy to read & fall for romances with a dash of danger.

I adore this family, their friend group & the ever growing beautiful community they have. Thereโ€™s been small hints at upcoming stories & I cannot wait to read them. Iโ€™m so excited for this series to continue & read more of this authorโ€™s wonderful work.

If you are looking to dance your way through an intriguing & spicy small town romantic suspense, I highly recommend When We Break!

Massive thanks to Valentine PR for the gifted copy, which I voluntarily read & reviewed.

This is the second book in the series. These Blackwells have stolen my heart for sure. So far the brothers are totally swoon worthy. Beckett gave me the same vibes as his Bridger. My heart broke for Skyla. To see her dreams of dancing professionally as a ballerina taken from her is soul crushing, but the way she pivots shows her inner strength. She has created a great life for herself in Montana. The one thing that stayed with me through out this book is Beckett makes Skyla feel safe. Reading this book makes you see how significant that it. I was hooked right from the beginning and it was so hard to put this book down. I truly love this small town. A great cast of characters all around. One of my favorite parts is when Skyla's ballerina partner comes to Montana. I can't wait for the next book in the series because I've already loved the first two books.
