I love the graphic novel format so that I could get used to Frank Herbert's dialogue before diving into the written novel. The artwork is gorgeous, and it provides a different reading experience so that I can enjoy reading the written novel later if I like.
It's important that they wanted to provide a truthful adaptation of the original novel. I support that. I wish Brian Herbert would have removed the pedophilia (tied in with homophobia) and just put a note in the introduction saying that this isn't necessary for the story and is harmful. The villain is very evil without needing to comment about how young and lovely the underage boy characters are. I consider that to be a part of bringing the novel to 21st century readers, as long as they know that the work has been modified. The movie did a great job of keeping the villain evil without needing homophobia. It veers further from the original novel, but it brings it to a wider audience and stops promoting homophobia.

I haven't read the novel but I think these graphic adaptations are well done. I hated the abrupt ending but I can't wait for book 3!
