I really tried but I found this book really dull, the characters weren't particularly likeable and I didn't have any desire to find out what happened.

Keď som knižku začínala čítať, netušila som, ako silno sa ma dotkne. Napohľad jednoduchý príbeh je pretkaný hlbokou bolesťou, ľuďmi, ktorí chcú robiť správne rozhodnutia, a nevyhnutnými následkami. Napriek tomu si myslím, že keby dostali druhú šancu, nedokázali by sa rozhodnúť inak... lebo niektoré veci sú jednoducho silnejšie ako my sami.

Meh. It was ok. I never connected with any of the characters and the story dragged itself through dust.

Interesting life of a lighthouse keeper in days past in a no win situation. Don't know what I would have done either.

Second half was better than the first half but the setting of the first half was better than the second half. You're asked to sympathize with the emotions behind some Bizarre decisions, which I think I did eventually, but I couldn't help but keep coming back to the fact that if they'd just dealt with the initial heartache it would've been easier in the first place, which was frustrating. Not a book for you if you don't like secondhand embarrassment.

I was completely uninterested in everything that happened to these people. It was a very tropey and dull story. I would avoid.
