so fun !! what a wonderful re-imagining of and then there were none. i practically devoured this book. it was atmospheric and captivating, and the ending did in fact surprise me :] a wonderful october read !!
This book started and it took me a while to care. I almost put it down and DNF, but I kept going. I got into it. Then suddenly, it was hooked! I was totally scared, it was so creepy. And it was quite a mystery. I had some suspicions but only fractionally and not the how.

Very interesting novel. I chose to read it because this is considered a classic or foundational murder puzzle book for Japanese literature, I think. The point of the murder mystery novel is the plot and the red herrings and deception, not necessarily the prose. Idk if it's cause it's a translation, or if there's a cultural thing I'm not aware of, or my lack of knowledge about murder mystery novels, but it was kinda stilted or uninspiring at some points, while intriguing at others. I think it was a much needed intro into a rich history of a genre.

It’s not often that I’m surprised by the reveal in a whodunnit, but this one got me! I loved being surprised! Overall, feel that maybe some of the oomph of the writing in general was lost in translation, but overall I enjoyed this mystery and didn’t see the end coming!
