When I started this one, I was a little nervous that it was going to be a book I had to slowly wade through. But after the prologue, it goes really quickly and was quite enjoyable.
It definitely is a classic mystery... there are some things about characters you don't know until a character reveals it as they take a guess at who's the murder. But I went in expecting that so I didn't mind. And after the reveal, you can see the moments that hint at it throughout the book, so that was a good thing.
But it was really fun going along with the mystery, seeing what was going on on the island at the same time people on the mainland are trying to solve the mystery that happened a year prior on that island (which is completely unknown by the folks on the island who are being directly impacted by it). So it was really cool seeing that, and I was equally invested in both POVs.
Additionally, the cast of characters... It was a little hard at first to get the folks on the island straight, but within the first couple chapters, they're easy to tell apart. And some people I disliked, some I really liked, and so it was an added tension point to see who was going to be the next victim.
In all, an entertaining classic mystery that I ended up really enjoying. If you like classic mysteries, this is definitely one to try.
Also, I finished this book and then immediately bought the second book in the series. So there's that. Here's hoping that one is as good as this one.
