Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a magnificent piece of cinematography. It made me think about how we treat nature, and everything that lives inside it without us caring too much.
Then the ending of the movie came... WHAT. THE. HELL?!!
description

After some years of waiting, they finally announced the sequel to this diamond. I saw it, and I'm still in shock. I knew Koba would become a dangerous ape, but I never expected this! But what happened to Koba that made him this cruel?

Well, this novel explained it all. When I bought it, I expected to learn how the human population started spreading the virus, slowly dying and leaving the world to the apes.
Although I wasn't wrong, this wasn't the most interesting part of the book. The book tells us two stories.
1. How the humans fought to survive after the virus hit them. Yes, they suspect the apes of it and will try to hunt them down.
2. The origin of Koba. From his birth to his transfer to the laboratory where things go haywire.

It's almost ubelievable to read that Koba was once a sweet little ape who loved his mother and his owners. Unfortunately, you'll quickly learn how cruel humans are. The things Koba had to live through were so horrible, it made me feel sorry for Koba. Even after I despised him for what he did to Rocket's son and all the other apes.
On the other hand, the story of the humans was a bit boring. It took too long for Ceasar to come into action. And don't get me wrong. You won't see a lot of apes fighting against the humans. It's more like: humans try to kill the apes, but the apes are much smarter and just get away every time.

A must-read for every fan of the new movies. Although it's a bit slow sometimes, you will be moved by Koba's story and Ceasar slowly becoming a real leader.

Fun novel for those looking for a backstory into these movies but the editing was so poor it took away from the story

a gripping read. very entertaining short novel that gives an insight into some of the ape characters and the genesis of humanity's retrovirus downfall. one the one hand you have Caesar leading the apes to a new life in the Muir Woods, struggling to survive in unfamiliar territory and one the other we can see society tear itself apart on the the human side, as the virus gets down to some serious work with Dreyfus desperately trying to be a beacon of hope for his city, in a world spiralling into war and anarchy.
