Moderate HFN ending, which is understandable as Simon is 24 and Charlie is 20.
Here I am again, just a girl standing on the outside looking in. I am in the minority with this book. It just did not work for me, while I loved both characters separately, they did not work well for me together as a couple. I thought Wicksy expected too much from Charlie and Charlie gave in too easily, in the relationship, with sex and all around in general. Each man had their own flaws and problems but they seem to multiply in Wicksy's head.
Kinks- whatever floats your boat
Hiding a relationship- whatever works for both.
Coming out on your terms- this should never be rushed or done for you.
Wanting the same things to make your relationship work- THIS needs to be mutual.
I might be the only reader that did not like the drag off the stage and in the bedroom.

There's not many people do this type of sexual exploration and awakening quite as well as Jay does as far as I'm concerned.
He's a master at not only handling the awkwardness of someone realising their sexuality isn't what they'd always expected, but also at bringing in the inadvertent hurt that can come alongside someone exploring how they express gender as well.
With this one, there's a double dose of confusion as each of the men in this pairing has some way to go in working out just what their emotions are telling them.
For Wicksy aka Simon, it's knowing that underneath the sexy hot Lady Gogo is a man and coming to terms with the fact he loves the femininity of a drag queen but also the male bodily parts.
For Charlie it's realising that exploring his feminine side doesn't necessarily mean he wants to change his gender and become a woman.
Together the progression of their relationship starts as a hot and a little bit kinky hook up and moves into genuine feelings as Charlie's feminine layers peel back more and Simon continues to be attracted to the person he finds underneath.
The sex in this starts off all kinky and dirty talk, which both men are turned on by, it's not just Simon pretending he's with a woman, but turns into a very much mutually loving connection.
Most of the angst comes from Simon working his way through his feelings about Charlie's gender and how he deals with it felt relatable to me.
I loved both characters, they're each full of awareness that they could be on the verge of something special and their relatively young ages (20 and 24) never actually came across as anything other than mature enough to know their own minds.
There's great support from the other Rainbow Place cast and we get to meet journalist Quentin again, who I hope is going to be the subject of book five.
No sign of his significant other on the horizon though if it will be his romance next. This whole series is a delight though.

This was a quick, sweet read that manged to tackle some serious issues around sexuality and gender identity. I loved both characters but Charlie was perfection.
While there are characters mentioned from other books, this reads well as a standalone.

Loved this charming story of sexual awakening and identity.
This book reminded me of Helping Hand, the same magic with an extra layer of maturity and self-discovery. I read this in one go, it was just impossible to put away. Absolutely amazing story! As of now, this is my favorite Jay Northcote title. Hands down.
I’ve been waiting for this story, super intrigued by Wicksy and Lady Gogo from their first meeting in Better Place. I had high expectations, but this still blew me away. This was such a fun read, with just the right amount of nervous tension, excellent pacing and phenomenal secondary characters. Loved the mums!
One of the (many) great things about this book is that both MC’s learned new things about themselves and that it wasn’t purely a “classic” OFY story. Charlie is an amazing character and I really enjoyed seeing him come into his own. I thought it was really great to have an MC who identifies as gender fluid.
Wicksy’s confusion felt very authentic to me. He’s not perfect and doesn’t have his act together from the get go, but he’s just so genuine and such a nice guy all around. Also, it really has to be said… this is a super sexy story! Wicksy sure has a way with words. I was seriously worried my kindle would catch fire.
Wicksy/Simon and Charlie are wonderful together and I hope to see more of them in future Rainbow Place stories.

I thought I would be put off by a seemingly straight guy only hooking up with a gay man when he's in drag, but it didn’t stay that way for long and was sensitively handled. Northcote may slip into mundane domesticity, but balances that with emotional honesty.
Super cute!!! Absolute loved the genderfluid/non binary rep!!! I love Charlie so much! Ahhhhh 4.5 stars! ❤️❤️❤️
An easy romance for a difficult time.
I really like the bi-representation, i can't speak for the non-binary/trans representation.
The story gets more nuanced the further you read.
I like the genderfuck mindfuck but I expect it's not for everyone, take care and find some content warnings.
I don't like how stereotypical the gender roles are, the feminist in me isn't happy with that part. But that's only a small annoyance. Since a lot of fuckery is going on with the gender roles on top of their stereotypes.
In the end, the story gave me comfort, and fun in a time where I really need that, so thank you Jay Northcote!
