"Power is a dangerous game" is the tagline for this book, but after reading this amazing novel, I believe it should be "Any once can betray anyone"
This book blew my mind away in so many directions, it broke my heart, made me feel like staring a rebellion, and wanting to have X-men like powers all at the same time! I could not put this book down and I loved every minute of it!
I loved how Victoria strayed away from the tides of typical teen fiction, adding a love story with actual purpose and not making a massive deal about it, not making it the centre of the story, as well as being able to create a character who is, in fact, humanly flawed. It is one of the things I love about the main character, Mare, the fact that she is sooo easy to relate to and it is the fact that she is not perfect that allows me to connect with her. Also the world is fantastic, a true taste of fantasy as well as holding some very dystopian qualities that remind me of the Hunger Games (mainly because of the political side of things).
I recommend this book to people like me, who are beginning to lose faith in teen fiction... this book may just save it. Red Queen has truly risen bolding, "as red as the dawn"...

Red Queen had me fully immersed. Young girl plucked from obscurity becomes head of rebellion. Yaaasss Queen! I enjoyed the unexpected plot twists. The romance aspect could have used some work. There wasn't enough development to make me believe the chemistry. Overall, it was a fun read and I look forward to the rest of the series.

At first I was a little unimpressed
But once the double crossing started it got better - think games of thrones level Murder and betrayals
(The “romance” is a little unbelievable and lacklustre though)
But I don’t think I’ll continue with the series…

More of a 3.5 for me. Took a bit to get into, wasn’t holding my attention. After a slow start and some general world building, it was fine. May return to the series and finish it, but I don’t feel a pressing need to continue.

My expectations were high for this book given all the hype, not to mention the excitement surrounding the release of the sequel so I finally got around to reading it. It was a painful process. Within the first few chapters I felt as though I'd read it before but in far better prose. I did trudge through it to the very end and just flat out disliked it. At first I wondered if I was being unfair since it is categorized as "Young Adult" but I can think of so many brilliant books targeted at the same age group that are actually original. It seemed as though the author was borrowing ideas from many popular novels and tried to merge them into one book. I could not connect with any of the characters and found the plot twist to be predictable.
