I didn’t get to this right after In an Absent Dream and then I put it off for so long because I was nervous about remembering everyone and everything. But it was never going to get better unless I reread the first 4, so I just went for it. It was better than I expected but definitely a still a little hazy. Some worlds are more my favorites than others, and while I was glad we got to finish Jack’s story, I don’t love the Moors. I’m glad I jumped back into this series though and I’m excited to continue!

2021 re-read: so glad this wasn't the final book! Not my favourite but still a lot of fun.
This was a bit of a let down for the finale to one of my favourite series. It did wrap up some of the plot lines but as with most of the books in this series, I'm left wanting more. I guess this is a testament to Seanan Mcguire's writing. There is a certain whimsy and charm to this series that I haven't found anywhere else that keeps me coming back. I'm really hoping she writes more in this world!

I really love the books with Jack. But also, the head-hopping bugged me; I at least need some sort of break in the narrative before switching POVs, rather than it changing mid-paragraph.
