My second Agatha Christie book and, unfortunately, I already knew how it concluded (comes with being such a famous crime!) so I didn't get to experience the thrill of seeing how it ended to the absolute.
I was also over-whelmed with so many characters but watched the latest film adaptation to help me distinguish them all a little better halfway through the book. It did help a lot and I was able to finish reading it having a better ability of keeping track.
On a bright note, I did enjoy this! It was simple, no long needless descriptions or ridiculous complications thrown in. I love that it hands out clues along the way, trying to give you hints, and even reviewing all the gathered clear evidence so you have a shot (if you don't know the spoilers) to solve the crime yourself! I did feel gutted that I already knew the ending, but there was definitely fun to be had in seeing how Poirot came to his conclusion.
Having short chapters was a bonus as I could read a chapter or two during my lunch breaks at work. If her other books are like this, the Poirot series may become my workplace reads.
It does show its age a bit, however, in how some characters rely on stereotypes of cultures and gender as "evidence". I was a little bit off with some parts of this but, fortunately, Poirot doesn't appear to accept these statements as evidence in his thinking progress which makes him look for more forward-thinking than others and far more likeable to me (I will definitely consider picking up more of his books).
Highly likely I would read it again to kill an afternoon or two!

A man on a train, murdered. Everyone has an alibi, and everyone has a secret.
I didn’t enjoy the narration on this one, I find Poirot a far more enjoyable character when a narrator, especially Hastings, is commenting on his ridiculous nature. But man her endings are so good
I’m also glad I read this on the kindle because there were many French phrases that needed translating!

I would never say an Agatha Christie book is bad. This book certainly is not bad; however, I did not find the mystery of the book to be very engaging. It was a very character-driven story, but I was just not super into it.
