4.1 AVERAGE

Well shit. There's a reason that Agatha Christie is so popular and now I see that reason for myself. I knew broadly who the culprit was going in, because it was spoiled for me.... somewhere, I don't remember. But watching it unfold was riveting. A bit slow at the start, and the writing style took some adjusting to, but it was still damn good.

This was the first Agatha Christie I ever read and I still remembered the then surprising outcome. That didn't stop me from enjoying this since the narrator was fantastic and gave my reading a new dimension.

Is this a good mystery? I do not know.
Is the story itself good? I do not think so.
Did I like the ending? Absolutely not.
Did I like any of the characters? Only the Russian Princess
Did I know the killer(s)? No.
Did this book rely on assumptions that were conveniently true? Yes.
Do I think it was the first or second theory? Second.
I believe that the two helper people (the doctor and the other one) were a part of the Armstrong case? Absolutely.
Is this xenophobic? Yes.
Is this sexist? Yes.
Was the pacing good? No. It was very fast at some parts and very slow at others and I found myself being very impatient towards the end because I did not care and wanted it to be over.
Would I reread this book? No. There’s just not enough reason for me too and I believe the evidence the Poirot used was stretched conveniently and rereading it wouldn’t help.
Would I recommend this story? Maybe. Maybe to like people who like Agatha Christie and/or are xenophobic/sexist.

I had heard the story of "Murder on the Orient Express" and watched a few movie adaptations, but I had never read the book, so I wanted to see what the differences were. Overall, it's a good book, although it can be a bit drawn out in the explanations whenever Poirot is involved. Nonetheless, it’s a worthwhile read.
